Ladies Do Lympstone - again!

Last time, it was hard hats and high viz jackets all round as Ladies Do Lunch enjoyed an exclusive preview of Lympstone Manor, celebrity chef Michael Caines’ new country house hotel.

Four months on, the dress code was definitely summer for the Ladies’ first lunch there since it officially opened.

They were welcomed by Ladies Do Lunch hostess and founder, Sally Sedgman.

Then they enjoyed a tour of the hotel and then sipped champagne on the terrace enjoying the magnificent views of the River Exe before tucking in to a two course lunch in one of the hotel’s beautiful...

Lympstone lad to cycle length of Europe for Hospiscare

Tom Pryor from Lynpstone is taking on an incredible charity challenge in aid of Hospiscare.

Tom (20) and three friends [Alec Bain, Sam Prestwich and James Prestwich], all aged under 21 are embarking on the bike ride of a lifetime on 3rd July and cycling the length of Europe from North to South [Arctic Circle to Southern Spain].

It will take nearly six weeks and they are possibly the youngest group to ever attempt this long distance route. It's a 40 night trip which they are doing completely self-supported, no hotels, hostels, family members, they couldn't even bring...

New Hospiscare@Home service launches

Hospiscare@Home is a new service which brings the expertise of the hospice into the home, responding to the needs of the local communities in and around Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Lympstone and Woodbury.

This new service is an extension of the Clinical Nurse Specialist service already provided in the area and offers hands-on nursing care when required, any time, day or night, supporting adult patients with life-limiting illness who wish to remain at home at the end of their lives.

England players put through their paces by Royal Marines in Devon

The England football team have been put through their paces during a top-secret trip to the Royal Marines’ Commando Training Centre in Lympstone ahead of their game against Scotland this Saturday.

England manager Garteth Southgate gathered his players and support staff in one of the national football centre’s dressing rooms, where a member of the Royal Marines informed them that they would immediately relocate to Devon for the next 48 hours.

The following days would see them experience an array of activities that Royal Marines recruits undertake, including a night camping...

Western Power Distribution has supported Exeter’s Lympstone Spartans U10s by providing a new kit.

Storekeeper Terry Foote, whose son plays for the team, enquired about the sponsorship.

Terry said: “The strips look great and the team are so happy to have a new kit.”

Max heads to National Youth Powerboat Final

15-year-old powerboater Max Batson from Lympstone has raced through to the national final of the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship for the third time.

Max was one of eight youngsters aged between 8 and 16 who demonstrated their powerboating skills in the SW area final which took place at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth last Saturday (6 August). Max’s winning time in the 13 – 16 age group was 1:25:19 - over two seconds faster than his last area final win in 2014. He also won the SW area final in the 8 – 12 category in 2012 and he has an amazing ten years’ experience of sailing...

Lympstone sea wall repairs near completion

Devon County Council is expecting to complete repairs to a section of the sea wall at Lympstone early this week.

The authority responded after high tides and rough seas over the festive break took their toll on the length of the old masonry wall on Sowden Lane, creating a hole the size of a small car.

The damage to the wall, which supports the highway, was reported to the County Council on 1st January and was assessed the same day by the on-call bridge inspector.

The area was fenced off and the site made safe and repairs got underway earlier this week.

Exe Estuary Trail goes solar

Solar lights now illuminate the path of the Exe Estuary Trail between Exmouth and Lympstone thanks to a joint project costing more than £26,000 between Exmouth Town and Lympstone Parish Councils.

The work, funded by East Devon District and Devon County Councils, means that people who use the route can do so safely and stay healthy and fit too. The Trail is popular with cyclists and walkers, both for leisure and for commuting between Exmouth and Exeter, and many of these journeys are made in the dark, particularly in the winter months.

Fire Engine and Vintage Vehicle Rally

The fire engine and vintage vehicle rally is to be held at Nutwell Court Estate, Lympstone, on Sunday 28 June, 10am-5pm.

There will be plenty to see and do including steam engine rides, family dog show, co-responders, children's rides, craft marquees, refreshments and much more.

There will be two special guest appearances in the main arena by the St Giles Steam Pump and Percheron Horses, courtesy of the owner Mr John McDermot.
