Celebrating more than a decade of business success, the UK’s fastest growing wireless network solutions provider, WiFi SPARK, has marked its milestone anniversary and continued growth with the opening of its new headquarters in the heart of Exeter.

Oak Furniture Land opening is a success

Exeter Chief’s famous mascot Big Chief….in the shape of a cake joined the Lord Mayor of Exeter to officially open the new Oak Furniture Land store on Exeter Retail Park on Saturday 24th May.

The life size cake of Big Chief’s head took centre stage as the Lord Mayor accepted the creation from the new Oak Furniture Land store.

Those who attended the opening were the only ones to catch a glimpse of the eye catching cake, which was due to make an apperance on Devon County Show's third and final day.

It’s been another eventful year for the city, with the announcement that the Rugby World Cup is coming to Exeter in 2015, putting the city on the world map and giving thousands of fans the chance to see what Exeter has to offer.

Our visitors this year included their Royal Highnesses the Earl and Countess of Wessex, to open the new sport facilities on the Quay and to attend the Two Moors Musical festival concert in the Cathedral. The Cycling Tour of Britain brought Sir Bradley Wiggins speeding through the city on the way to Dartmoor.

Details of Exeter's Remembrance Sunday Service announced

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Rachel Lyons, together with the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Wing Commander Brian Wills-Pope MBE DL and other civic and military dignitaries with a connection to Exeter, will be commemorating Remembrance Sunday on 10 November with an open air service around the War Memorial in Northenhay Gardens.

Princesshay hosts wheelchair relay for Ataxia UK

Princesshay plays host to the first wheelchair relay on Sunday 13 October from 11am in aid of Ataxia UK – the Lord Mayor’s nominated charity for 2013 and 2014. Seven wheelchair users aided by friends and family will take part in the relay.

Ataxia is the term used to describe a group of neurological conditions that gradually attack the brain. Most ataxias are progressive and cause problems with balance, coordination and speech and at the moment there is no cure. Exeter’s annual Really Big Quiz, organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the Lord Mayor of Exeter is appealing for more teams to sign up and help support his charity.

Exeter Guildhall hosts its first ever wedding show and fayre

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Rob Newby, accompanied by the Lady Mayoress, hosted the Guildhall's first ever wedding fashion show and fayre last weekend. The two events raised more than £1,000 for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity, Socops.

The fashion show on Friday 1 March was opened by the Faces of Princesshay 2012-2013, Lucy Nicholson and Ashley Knight. Local fashion retailer Catwalk 09 showed a vast array of stunning dresses for all ages and male models looked dashing in suits provided by Moss Bros.

Exeter remembers Polish 307 Squadron

November has seen the city make history at a very special event at The Guildhall, which took place on Thursday 15th November 2012. The event honoured the members of 307 (Polish) Squadron RAF who protected the skies over Exeter during the Second World War.

Local historian, Michael Parrott, who is also a 'Friend of Higher Cemetery', was researching the history of the cemetery's two chapels when he was shown a wooden memorial to a 307 Pilot tucked away on the wall of an unused corner of one of the chapels.

Lord Mayor of Exeter's Valentine's Masquerade Ball

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Rob Newby, is hosting a Valentine’s Masquerade Ball in aid of his chosen charity SOCOPS (Social Opportunities), on Friday 15 February.

Thick as Thieves provide the live music and there will be an auction and casino.

Tickets: £45, £80 per couple, £375 table of 10 to include dinner, complimentary drink and casino chips.
