Redrow, one of the UK’s leading house builders, has extended the sales team of its West Country Division to support the firm’s growth plans across Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

Teignbridge to set up housing partnership

Teignbridge District Council’s Executive has agreed in invest £20million to help build new affordable homes across the district.

Concern at increases in repossessions

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is expressing its concern at an increase in the number of repossession cases listed at Exeter County Court in the six month period ending 30th September 2016. This is in comparison with the same period last year.

Across all housing sectors, there was an overall increase of 6% in the total number of cases listed. Brexit uncertainty dampens activity in SW housing market

Uncertainty fuelled by the EU Referendum has resulted in a marked drop in activity in the South West housing market, according to the RICS UK Residential Market Survey, June 2016.

New buyer enquiries declined significantly across the UK in June, with 36% more chartered surveyors nationally reporting a fall in interest - this is the lowest reading since mid-2008. The South West fared somewhat better however, with just 4% more respondents reporting a decline in buyer demand (as opposed to a rise). In a post Brexit update local property expert, Roger Wilkinson, says the property market in Exeter shows no sign of cooling.

CAB raises concerns over benefits and employment

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has published its advice trend statistics for April 2016. The charity has helped 43% more people with their advice and information when compared to April 2015.

And Chief Executive Steve Barriball said there were concerns over increases in enquiries about welfare benefits, employment and housing every month last year.

The amount of advice that the charity has been able to provide compared to April last year, was as follows:

SW house prices 'set to falter'

Near term expectations for South West house prices turned slightly negative for the first time since 2013 according to the latest Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Residential Market Survey.

The survey shows house prices in central London falling while prices are continuing to climb modestly across the rest of the UK. In the South West 25% more respondents said prices had risen rather than fallen over the last three months. This figure has fallen in each month since February when 73% more respondents reported a rise rather than a fall in prices.
