Heated debate over new homes at CPRE Devon seminar in Exeter

Around one hundred and eighty people attended a seminar last week organised by CPRE Devon to address the controversial issue of where new homes should be built in Exeter, East Devon, Teignbridge and Mid Devon.

Presentations by East Devon MP Sir Hugo Swire, and Simon Thornley and Andy Wood from the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan (GESP) gave rise to lively debate at the meeting last Friday (January 19th).

Reduction in housing possession actions welcomed by Citizens Advice Exeter

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has welcomed an overall 11% reduction in the number of housing repossession cases listed at Exeter County Court in the three-month period ending 30th June. This is in comparison to the same period in 2016.

Steve Barriball, Citizens Advice Exeter Chief Executive, said: “In the last quarter there were 126 cases listed for repossession, an overall 11% reduction, or 16 cases, on the previous year. However, there was a small increase in private rented sector repossessions, which were up by one case.

House price inflation slowed further in June, according to the latest South West RICS UK Residential Market Survey. At the same time there is little encouragement for sales activity with new instructions declining and new buyer enquiries remaining flat across the region.
