Teignbridge to host free landlord open evening

Private landlords, property investors and owners of empty homes are invited to a free Landlord Open Evening hosted by Teignbridge District Council on Thursday 18 May.

Open to all Teignbridge landlords, whether currently renting or thinking about renting, the event covers all areas of buy to let and brings together experts and industry providers under one roof. With an informal environment, landlords will have the opportunity to network and gain more information and advice they need to run tenancies effectively as well as brush up on managing a safe, secure and profitable tenancies.

There will be talks from:

Peplows Chartered Accountants, covering:
• jointly held property
• additional inheritance tax allowance for main homes
• new loan interest rules
• stamp duty

Teignbridge District Council, covering:
• raising letting agents standards
• funds to support tenancy rescue schemes
• help to meet minimum energy performance rating from April 2018
• Council staged approach to working with landlords
• the Housing and Planning Act 2016

Boyce Hatton Solicitors, covering:
• Deregulation Act; a reminder of changes
• the do’s and don’ts when starting and ending a tenancy
• retaliatory evictions
• unlawful eviction

The buy to let market is expanding and the government has introduced a lot of legislation to try to improve standards. These regulations are designed to protect both landlords and tenants, help keep your business up to date and avoid any pitfalls.

The event takes place on Thursday 18 May, from 4.30pm to 8.30pm at Old Forde House, Brunel Road, Newton Abbot, TQ12 4XX. Free parking and refreshments are provided.

It is important that landlords are aware of their legal responsibilities to keep their properties in good state of repair and manage their tenancies. Legislation is constantly changing and this free event gives landlords the opportunity to hear from experts on a wide range of property management issues and we would encourage all landlords to attend.”
