Honiton gymnast Hallie wins silver in global acrobatics competition

Last weekend, four Honiton gymnasts took part in the global Acrobatic Blocks Competition (ABC) where they performed virtual handstand events against some of the best acrobatic gymnasts and circus performers in the world.

Hallie Bennett, Max MacDonald, Sky Shute and Oscar Felice took part in the event, which was held on Zoom and broadcast live on YouTube, featuring more than 350 competitors from 25 countries in four age-group categories. Honiton gymnasts take medals at national finals

Eight gymnasts from Honiton Gymnastics Club represented the south west region at the National Development Plan (NDP) Finals at the weekend, and each one of the returned with medals after finishing in podium places.

The NDP Finals saw area champions from 13 UK regions meeting at Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent to battle it out for top honours.

All three partnerships from Honiton Gymnastics Club qualified for the finals after winning their categories at the South West Acrobatic Prelims in Bristol in February.

Honiton’s Helen shortlisted for Devon Sports Coach of the Year

Honiton Gymnastics Club high-performance coach Helen Reddy has been shortlisted for the Coach of the Year Award in the Devon Sports Awards 2017.

The Level 5 gymnastics coach, who has been involved in the sport for more than 30 years, will now attend a glittering awards ceremony at Sandy Park in June.

Helen has been recognised by awards’ judges thanks to her tireless work at both Honiton Gymnastics club (where she is a coach and board member) and at Ivybridge Community College (where she is Head of Performing Arts and runs the gymnastics academy).

19 medals and two national finalists for Honiton Gymnastics Club

One after the other Honiton gymnasts stepped onto the podium to collect honours at the weekend, as 19 partnerships medaled at the annual South West Prelims competition.

The competition was held at King Edmund International Gymnastics Centre in Yate, near Bristol.

Among the medalists were four Honiton gold medal partnerships, two of which have now qualified to represent the South West at the National Development Plan finals at Stoke-on-Trent in May.

New kit for Devon gymnastics club

Teign View Gymnastics Club in Devon is celebrating after receiving a new balancing beam extender.

The kit was presented to members of the team by electricity company Western Power Distribution (WPD).

Tom Halfyard, who works for the company and whose daughter is part of the team, said: “This is such a generous donation and it will mean a lot to the members of the club.”

A walking treasure hunt and barbecue, to raise funds for new gymnastics equipment for Honiton Gymnastics Club, is taking place at Honiton Rugby Club on Saturday 21 May - and everyone is welcome. Starting at 1pm, the fun afternoon for all the family - which has been organised by the club's Supporters Association. The Treasure Hunt is open to teams of between one and six.

With at least 1 adult (over 18) if there are children in the team at primary school. Parents are responsible for letting children enter.

Honiton Gymnastics Club took 51 gymnasts to Tunbridge Wells in Kent for the Next Dimension Gymnastics Academy (NDGA) Invitational last weekend, returning with five gold medals, seven silvers and four bronzes.

It’s the biggest team that the club has ever taken away to an invitational competition, and the occasion was made even more memorable by the fact that Honiton was the most successful club at the event.

Devon and Jack make their mark on national gymnastics scene

The acrobatic gymnastics season is well and truly under way for Honiton Gymnastics Club men’s pair Devon Roe-Lavery and Jack Britten, who have taken two silvers in two competitions.

But it’s their performance at the Bristol International that really made the pair stand out, as they were competing against gymnasts from the top clubs in Great Britain. Success in Switzerland for Honiton Gymnasts

Gymnasts from Honiton Gymnastics Club further boosted the club’s international reputation last week when they competed at the Swiss Acro Cup in Winterthur, Switzerland.

The 16 talented acrobatics, aged eight to 18, competed against gymnasts from countries including Poland, Belarus, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland, putting in fine performances and bringing back two golds and one bronze medal.
