Three young partnerships from Honiton Gymnastics Club were named South West champions and one more took a bronze medal at last weekend’s South West Novice Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships.

The results, which confirmed Honiton’s junior gymnasts as among the best in the region, were a fitting end to the acrobatic gymnastics season, which began in February with a similar haul of medals.

A team of acrobats from Honiton Gymnastics Club has just returned from the Geneva International Acro Cup clutching a haul of medals and as winners of the competition’s overall team trophy.

The 15 gymnasts – aged between 10 and 21 – were competing at the annual international gymnastics competition, which featured performers from countries including Russia, Ireland, South Africa and Switzerland.

The talented youngsters brought home six gold medals, four silvers, two bronzes, and two fourth places.

Honiton Gymnastics Club men’s pair Jamie Jeffery (16) and Matthew Beviss (10) have returned from the Acrobatic Gymnastics National Development Plan finals in Stoke on Trent with silver medals.

The pair were narrowly pipped to the gold medal position by a partnership from Bromley Valley in Kent. Matthew and Jamie’s silver medal follows their gold medal performance at the regional preliminary competition in Taunton earlier this year.

Newly-formed acrobatic partnership Matthew Beviss (10) and Jamie Jeffery (16) maintained Honiton’s recent record for excellent men’s pair partnerships by taking the Grade 3 South West title at last weekend’s regional preliminaries in Taunton.

The pair will now go on to represent the south west region at the national finals in Stoke on Trent in May.

While their club mates were competing in the National Development Plan Prelims, 10 of Honiton’s elite gymnasts were turning heads at the Bristol International Acrobatic Gymnastics competition, taking a gold, two silvers and a bronze.

In the 12-18 age group, despite making mistakes in their final routine, Adam Fullick and Megan Jones took gold in the mixed pair event. They were ahead of Sean Kingston and Megan Cross, who took bronze, and current British bronze medallists Charlotte Beviss and Josh Jackson who took fourth.
