ITV’s Seth runs GWR for CHSW

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is delighted that ITV Westcountry reporter, Seth Conway, is going to be running Exeter’s Great West Run on behalf of the local children’s charity in October.

Seth ran his first marathon last year in Barnstaple, for which he also chose to run for CHSW. GO2, organisers of Exeter’s Great West Run, sponsored by Tozers, are pleased to announce four-time Olympian and European 10,000 metre champion Jo Pavey, as the official race starter at Exeter’s iconic event taking place on Sunday 18 October. Born in Honiton, Devon, Jo is a familiar face on the local running scene, as a member of Exeter Harriers Athletics Club.

Graham Hopkins, a 60 year old man from Exeter, ran his first ever Exeter’s Great West Run when it was first hosted in 1985, and has completed it every year since, with 2015 set to be his 31st! Graham has always had a love for running and taking on long-distance races. After watching the first London Marathon in 1981, he wanted to run it for himself and so entered the 1982 London Marathon and was lucky enough to be accepted. Great West Run brings together charities, businesses and runners

On Sunday 18th October, hundreds of runners and spectators will flood to Exeter city centre to support the 31st annual Great West Run.

With local businesses and residents coming together to support those taking on the challenge, many local charities are benefiting from participants raising money for good causes. YMCA Exeter is one of those charities.

With a team already signed up to run, the charity – which provides supported housing for homeless young people across Exeter – is hoping that the participants will raise vital funds for their St. Davids Hill hostel.

After rupturing her ACL last October, Rachel Gabriel from Plymouth, is impressively set to run Exeter’s Great West Run almost exactly one year on.

Being a member of the Armed Forces and having a very active lifestyle has made Rachel aware of how disheartening an injury can be, but she has not let this affect her motivation. Accolade for SW Road Runners

South West Road Runners have been awarded Exeter’s Great West Run prestigious Running Club Award, after a fantastic performance by its top performing male and female club runners on race day.

The award recognises the best overall club performance, combining the top two male and top two female fastest finishing times. James Reeves, Michael Lesniak, Laura Swanton and Karen Cook, who finished an impressive thirty six minutes ahead of the next placed team.

Star treatment for Hospiscare runners in Great West Run

Runners raising cash for Hospiscare in the Great West Run received star treatment. The local charity’s fundraising team played drums and cheered the runners at the start of the race in Exeter’s Sidwell Street.

When runners finished they were invited to the Southgate Hotel which kindly hosted a Hospiscare thank you party. Runners were able to shower, enjoy a much needed massage from Hospiscare volunteer complementary therapists and relax on the terrace with coffee.

40-strong EDF team to take part in GWR

Almost 40 staff members from EDF Energy’s Gadeon House office in Exeter have rallied together and entered into Exeter’s Great West Run, taking place on Sunday 19 October.

The group hopes to raise £3,000 in aid of EDF Energy’s charity partner Marie Curie, with all the funds going to help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s nine hospices. YMCA Exeter Interns set themselves admirable challenge in first week

Four out of the six new YMCA Exeter Ten:10 Interns have signed up for the charities Great West Run team in the first week of them being in the city.

All four boys, who are not only giving a year of their lives to serve the charity through their time and effort, are also running the 13.1 mile route to help combat youth homelessness.
