This Exeter family together hope to raise £50,000 by taking on Exeter’s Great West Run in a bid to help four-year-old Sophie Joy walk unaided for the first time.

The team is made up of Sophie's father Daniel Case, Deborah Down, grandmother and Jade Down, auntie.

Sophie has battled Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy from a very young age, and despite the tireless efforts of her parents to support her with as much physio at home, she will only see her condition improve significantly with an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy.

GO2, organisers of Exeter’s Great West Run, sponsored by Tozers, have announced that entry levels have already exceeded those of the 2013 race at 2,500, with still two months left to go for runners to sign up.

This years race, taking place on Sunday 19 October 2014, has not only enticed a growing level of interest from clubs and runners, but also from a number of new partners, which promise to maximise both the race day experience, and engagement with the community in the lead up.

1,600 entries in 3 weeks for Great West Run

Organisers of Exeter’s Great West Run, sponsored by Tozers, are delighted to announce that the 2014 event has already attracted over 1,600 sign ups in just three weeks of entries being officially opened.

Last year, a total of 2,123 runners took to the streets of Exeter to complete the 13.1 mile challenge. With 1,600 already registered for 2014, the surge of runners taking advantage of the early bird savings would suggest that this years entries will substantially surpass those of recent years.

Run organisers announce local partnership

Organisers of Exeter’s Great West Run, sponsored by Tozers Solicitors, are pleased to announce a new local partnership with Newtown Community Association for 2014. As part of the events publicity and fundraising schedule, the run will support the associations New Hut Vision project, which aims to replace the Second World War hut in Belmont Park.

GO2, Organisers of Exeter’s Great West Run, sponsored by Tozers are pleased to announce that entries for the 2014 half marathon race taking place on Sunday 19 October 2014 are now open.

Local charity Exeter YMCA is issuing the challenge, to those with a daring heart, to run the Great West Run on behalf of Exeter YMCA wearing an imaginative costume. The runner with the most impressive costume will receive two day passes at the Exeter Golf and Country Club as a prize.

Schools’ Challenge gets Devon’s children running

Primary schools from Exeter and North Devon will be taking part in Exeter’s Great West Run on Sunday 13 October, as part of the Schools’ Challenge.
