Flybe flight diverted after engine fire

A Flybe flight was forced to divert yesterday after an engine on one of its planes caught fire.

The aircraft had been travelling from Glasgow to George Best Belfast City Airportwhen the emergency was declared.

The ambulance service said all 76 passengers and four crew were taken off the plane safely. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Flybe confirmed the flight was diverted due to a small engine fire which was extinguished before landing.

An inspection of the plane is under way.

Warning after Christmas decorations spark blaze... Cat and dog rescued...

Firefighters have urged residents to be extra cautious this Christmas after decorations started a blaze in a Tiverton flat last night.

Fire closes part of city centre

Emergency services declared a "major incident" in Exeter after fire broke out at McDonald's restaurant in the High Street yesterday morning (Sunday).

Some roads and shops were closed and the public were warned to stay away from the area.

Crews called to kitchen fire in Crediton

Fire crews were called into action shortly before 1.30pm on Saturday after reports of a blaze at a block of flats in Crediton.

Numerous calls were made to the fire service reporting smoke coming from a property in Town Park.

On arrival the incident commander confirmed there was a fire in the kitchen of the ground floor flat.

Crews had to force entry.

The adjacent properties were checked in the roof space to ensure the fire had not spread.

Crews used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

Woman rescued from blaze in Exmouth flat

A woman has been rescued from a blazing flat in Exmouth.

The alarm was raised shortly after 3am today by a man who was also inside the property,

Fire crews investigate Sandford barn fire

Fire crews were called to a barn fire at Welland Down Farm in Sandford near Crediton last night.

Fire control received a call from the above address at around 7pm reporting a barn containing hay on fire.

Two appliances from Crediton, one from Witheridge and the water bowser from Exeter were mobilised.

On arrival crews confirmed that there was a barn containing approximately 200 large bales of hay well alight.

Initial reports stated there were animals also in the barn, however, fire crews confirmed that no animals were injured and had been moved to safety...

Storms cause flooding and travel disruption

Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flooding and travel disruption across Exeter and East Devon this morning.

In Honiton a lightning strike caused a fire at a property in Stout. Two fire engines from Honiton and one from Sidmouth attended just before 8am.

Two hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire was a lightning strike on the property.

In Dawlish fire control received around six calls to reports of flooding inside properties due to heavy rainfall.

Delay in re-opening fire damaged pub

The owner of a fire-ravaged Exeter pub today said it was unlikely to re-open until after Christmas.

A huge blaze tore through The Hole In The Wall in Little Castle Street in June causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Today, owner George Sloan told The Exeter Daily that the clean up operation had taken longer than expected.

"We found quite a lot of asbestos that had to be very carefully removed and that has been a long job," said George.

"However, we are starting to get there now but it's highly unlikely we'll be able to re-open before the new year."...

Firefighters tackle Exeter laundrette blaze

Three appliances from Middlemoor and Danes Castle were mobilised to reports of a laundrette on fire in Richmond Road, Exeter.

On arrival crews made forced entry and discovered a fire in the vertical shaft to the rear of the property.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet, 135 ladder, two short extension ladders, one thermal imaging camera, one saw and small tools.

The electrics were also isolated.

Crews spent a period of time cutting away and damping down to make safe.

Major blaze at Devon farm

Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a farm in Cullompon today.

The report from the control team is below:

The Fire Service received several calls reporting a barn on fire at Clayhidon, Cullompton. Two fire appliance from Wellington, two fire appliances Taunton and the water carrier from Bridgwater attended.

Fire crews confirmed two barns well alight. All stock had been removed from the barns prior to the arrival of the Fire Service. The fire was spreading to an adjacent workshop.
