Communities around East Devon are about to see an extra cash injection after parish and town councils successfully bid for over £150,000 of fresh funding.
In total, £155,558 will be placed in the district’s ‘Parishes Together Fund’ after East Devon District Council and Devon County Council worked together to raise the sum equal to £1.10 per elector. Projects including the Ottery Food Bank, the Cranbrook Community fund, the Axminster mental health organisation known as ‘The Project’ as well as several primary schools in the area are among the projects to benefit from the funding....
A-level photography students from Exmouth Community College are preparing for an exhibition of their work at A la Ronde, the National Trust property near Exmouth.
The exhibition, which will run from 27 March to 9 April, represent a diversity of students' photographic interests. Work on the new 60-bedroom Premier Inn on the former Elizabeth Hall site in Exmouth is scheduled to begin at the end of April.
Premier Inn is close to completing its final preparation work before starting work on site. It has concluded its negotiations with its chosen contractor and is working with East Devon District Council to fulfil the final requirements of the planning consent, before the start of construction.
Once on-site, the appointed contractors will complete the development quickly and to the highest standard, with an anticipated opening date of early 2015....
Around 800 businesses across East Devon are set to benefit from a scheme that will give them rate relief of up to £1,000 for the next two years. The scheme, adopted by East Devon District Council, is designed to give local retail businesses of a rateable value of less than £50,000 a chance to compete on a more level playing field with internet retailers. Businesses to benefit include shops, post offices, restaurants, cafes, pubs and garden centres. A 14-year-old girl who went missing from her Exmouth home on Monday morning has been found safe and well. Police have been carrying extensive searches for Harriet Melbourne who left for school on Monday but did not arrive. Harriet was located safe and well in Penzance this evening. Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

Dave was an agri-environment adviser to farmers and the government before his early retirement.
