Exeter charity given green light to make energy efficiency improvements

Staff, volunteers and patients at the city’s hospice were celebrating after being awarded £2,000 from the E.ON Energy Action Fund towards the cost of replacement lighting throughout the building.

In a bid to improve its energy efficiency, charity Hospiscare has now begun fitting LED lighting in its day care and in-patient units, education facilities and staff offices. Hospiscare expects the new, high efficiency lighting to reduce its electricity use by more than 60%, with resulting savings to the charity of around £5,000 a year. A Willand sports club is set to introduce more youngsters to gymnastics, weightlifting and athletics thanks to a donation from a leading UK housebuilder. Excelsior Athletic Development Club received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South West as part of the firm’s Community Champion initiative, which sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities each year. New kits for Exeter footballers

A football club that offers adults with disabilities the chance to get involved in the beautiful game has received a cash boost for new kits courtesy of a leading UK housebuilder.

Exeter City Ability Counts FC has been handed a £1,000 grant thanks to Persimmon Homes South West’s Community Champions scheme, which has seen over £400,000 donated nationally this year.

The South West branch of the business, based in Exeter, has £2,000 to give away each month courtesy of the initiative.

The Stable to open at Queen St Dining

The Stable restaurant is set to be next to open in Exeter’s Queen St. Dining and has marked the occasion by putting two vintage caravans on the roof.

The Southern restaurant, opening Thursday 29th September, will be the fourth to open in Exeter’s new dining destination, following the successful unveiling of Turtle Bay, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, and Absurd Bird.

The Exeter restaurant will be the 16th branch of this Southern-based pizza, pie and cider chain. With locations in neighbouring cities, Bristol and Plymouth, it is sure to be a popular choice with Exeter diners....

Conference places available for key office staff

Delegate places at a unique conference offering training, development and networking for key office staff from across the south west are being snapped up quickly.

The inaugural Joint PA Networks’ conference has been developed through a collaboration between the PA Networks of Exeter, Bristol and Cardiff.

Three talented apprentices from HepcoMotion in Tiverton have been shortlisted for a prestigious regional apprentice award at this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

Thomas West, Matthew Dower and Craig Capel were selected along with 18 other apprentices from across the South West after impressing judges with their hard work, dedication and determination to pursue a career in manufacturing.

Plea to help care for our feathered friends on the Exe

Dog owners, water users and walkers enjoying the Exmouth Nature Reserve are being urged by the Exe Estuary Managment Partnership to follow a few simple rules to avoid disturbing protected birds this autumn.

Over the next few weeks thousands of birds, including brent geese, wigeon and northern pintail ducks, are expected to make their annual journey from the Arctic to East Devon.

Most of these birds start the autumn on the estuary at Exmouth because the mild climate and ice-free waters provide a good feeding ground.

They are attracted by the nourishing eel grass...
