The Clarence Hotel
Oh the fire in the Clarence Hotel
Is too sad to even tell
All that history up in flames
Visitor books full of names
People travelled there from afar
To sample a tipple at the bar
To seek the delights of Exeter
Then back to the lounge to confer
On wonders found
And sights seen all around
The Cathedral can tell the story
Standing opposite in all it’s glory
It has seen folk come and go
The jolly ebb and flow
Now we seek memories and a photograph
Stories of your stay some sad, some with a laugh
Another piece of history gone
Fate has dealt it’s hand and won
And as we mourn it’s demise
We seek stories to surprise
To uplift and open our eyes
To reflect and value our treasure
As our history is important – beyond measure
