Devon County Council calls for pause in hospital cuts

Devon County Council is calling for a pause in planned cuts to hospital services across the county.

There has been widespread public opposition to the cuts to acute and hospital beds proposed to head off a multi-million deficit in health services.

Now Devon County Council is calling on the Government and NHS England to provide fair funding for health services in Devon.

Councillors agreed today that until health services in Devon are properly funded it was not possible to judge what the deficit was and if any action was needed to balance the books.

Devon Wildlife Trust set to manage Exeter's Valley Parks

The conservation charity Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) is to take over the long term management of Exeter’s Valley Parks. The transfer of management was agreed last night at a meeting of the Trust’s Board. Although Exeter City Council will continue to own the Valley Parks, day-to-day management will be carried out by Devon Wildlife Trust. The date for the transfer is yet to be finalised but is expected to occur in 2017. The transfer applies to large parts of Riverside, Ludwell, Mincinglake, Duryard, Belvidere, Barley Valley and Whitycombe Way.

Convertible chairs donated to Bolham Ward

Three convertible chairs have been donated to Bolham Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to enable carers to stay with their relatives if they need to whilst in hospital.

The donation to the Bolham Ward Trust Fund has been made in memory of former patient Patrick Tilbury by local charities The Exeter Foundation, The Exeter Lions and close friend Laura Coniam.

Patrick’s parents Barbara and David Tilbury organised the £4500 donation to the neurological ward where he spent time being cared for earlier this year.

Exmouth schoolchildren take a trip on the Avocet Line

Pupils from Marpool Primary School in Exmouth took a free train trip on the Avocet Line which links Exmouth and Exeter, to visit the Royal Albert Memorial Museum on 30th November 2016. The trip was organised by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership under their “Train trips for schoolchildren” initiative. This aims to introduce more children to rail travel and is run in conjunction with Great Western Railway, who provided free travel for the children and teachers.

Sexual assault on train to London

Detectives from British Transport Police are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted whilst travelling on a train between Plymouth and London Paddington.

Just after 9am on Friday 11 November, a 21-year-old woman boarded a train at Plymouth station, bound for London. During her journey a man sat next to her and then touched her inappropriately. She challenged the man who then moved to a different seat.

He then left the train at Paddington and entered the London Underground.
