A Second World War veteran from Devon will be marching at the Cenotaph in London this Remembrance Sunday (13/11) with the military charity Blind Veterans UK. Ron Wyman, 90 and from Honiton, feels strongly about Remembrance Sunday because of his experiences in the Armed Forces and is thankful to Blind Veterans UK that he can now attend the national Remembrance Sunday commemoration. Patients at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital can now access a quick and pain-free scan to help diagnose liver disease thanks to a donation from the League of Friends and support from the Exeter Liver Patients Group.
The RD&E’s Hepatology team have just received a new Fibroscan, a machine which uses ultrasound based technology to assess fibrosis (scarring) of the liver. The quick and painless scan can be performed by a consultant or specialist nurse, reducing the need for more invasive procedures such as a liver biopsy.
Residents and visitors can now pay for parking by smartphone or card payments after Teignbridge District Council invested in the latest technology across its car parks.
Customers can now use cards and smartphone payment methods as a further convenient way to pay as well as paying by phone or using cash.
Work is also taking place to install 14 new machines in 11 car parks and upgrade 48 machines in the remaining 25 pay and display car parks across the district to allow payment by card, as well as cash at the machines.

Around 50 businesses attended a multi-agency meeting today to find out how best to move forward following the devastating events of last weekend.

Exeter City Council is doing everything it can to salvage as much as possible from the original structure of the fire-damaged Royal Clarence Hotel.
The City Council said yesterday (Friday 4 November) that it was working closely with the hotel’s owners, Andrew Brownsword Hotels, Historic England and other partners to salvage and record any particularly significant fabric and items from the wreckage.
Following last weekend’s fire, the site has now been handed back to the owners, Andrew Brownsword Hotels. The main priority is to make the site safe.
Devon County Council (DCC) is inviting residents to have their say on proposed changes to its waste management service.
The changes at Devon’s Household Waste Recycling Centres include length restrictions on vehicles using the sites, charging for the disposal of all plastic construction and demolition DIY waste and an amendment to the list of non-acceptable wastes.
Changes are also proposed to ensure that the amount DCC pays community groups to compost waste is comparable with the authority’s own composting costs.
