Chance to quiz councillors on key city issues

People in Exeter are being given the chance to quiz councillors on any key issues for the city.

Exeter residents are invited to put forward questions to members of the joint County and City Councils' Exeter Board, at their next meeting on Monday 21 November at 5:30pm at the Civic Centre in Paris Street. The Board allocates 15 minutes for their ‘open forum’, with 3 minutes per speaker, with a maximum of 3 - 4 speakers to allow time for discussion.

Astronaut joins Extreme Medicine team

Astronaut, physician and adventurer Dr Michael Barratt has signed up to support the Extreme Medicine teaching team, which will help train doctors on how to practice high-quality Medicine, even in space.

Dr Barratt, who served as a flight surgeon for NASA before being selected as an astronaut, will bring his experience of two missions into space to the joint expertise of programme partners the University of Exeter Medical School and World Extreme Medicine.

People are being invited to share their memories of the Royal Clarence Hotel by writing in a book of remembrance at Exeter Guildhall.

The Hotel was badly damaged by fire at the end of last month and many people have fond memories of either staying there, visiting the hotel for a meal or functions, or just enjoying it from the Cathedral Green.

MP lends his support to Citizens Advice Exeter Energy Campaign

CITY MP Ben Bradshaw lent his weight to a series of energy advice sessions organised by Citizens Advice Exeter.

As part of their national Big Energy Saving Week, teams from the charity have been spreading the word about switching – helping some Exeter residents save more than £300 on their bills.

Temporary lights overnight on Bridge Road

Temporary traffic lights will be introduced overnight on Bridge Road in Exeter from 11pm this evening (Wednesday 9 November) until 5am tomorrow morning (Thursday 10 November).

The temporary signals are needed to allow the contractor working space to undertake coring work for foundations of new lighting columns on the downstream side of Countess Wear Bridge. The road will temporarily be reduced to one lane while the traffic lights are in place, and therefore anyone travelling on Bridge Road at that time should expect minor delays.

Co-cars 'hire by the hour' Car Club launches in Cranbrook

Co-cars, the South West's fast-growing hire by the hour car club, officially launched its first car in Cranbrook today, Friday 4th November 2016 outside the Youunghayes Centre.

Co-cars offers its cars for hire to members, by the hour, with pick-up and return to the specially reserved bays. Members can book 24/7 online or via a smartphone and use a smartcard and PIN to open the car.

The Cranbrook car has been funded jointly by the Cranbrook consortium of developers, Devon County Council and Co-cars.

Cathedral to hold service of thanksgiving following devastating fire

A special service of thanksgiving will be held this Saturday in Exeter Cathedral, two weeks on from the devastating fire which ripped through historic properties on the Cathedral green and destroyed the historic Royal Clarence hotel. Members of all emergency services have been invited to the service and will be thanked for their heroic efforts to stop the fire from spreading.
