The phrase ‘a stitch in time saves nine’ could not be further from the truth for a group of dedicated National Trust volunteers who have spent 5,200 hours sewing life into old chairs. The group, from Killerton House, has been sewing individual tapestries into 16 chairs since January last year and are coming to the end of the momentous project just as Killerton celebrates National Volunteers Week. Hospiscare’s latest shop opened in Heavitree in March and is already doing a roaring trade in a range of electrical goods, homeware, clothes, and second-hand books.

Recently, however, the shop took on a more educational role as the manager Bonnie Gilbert was invited to visit the Heavitree Brownie Troop to share the importance of the work that Hospiscare does.

Always wanted to sing in a gospel choir? Now’s your chance, you can take part in a gospel workshop and concert in Exeter on Saturday June 17.

Sing Gospel, which is a BBC Gospel Choir of the Year finalist, is coming to the city for an all-day workshop where you’ll have lots of fun, and then go on to perform at an evening concert. Choir director Josh Cadman is one of the country’s leading gospel tutors and believes everyone can sing.

Exeter School is hosting a British Shooting Target Sprint on 10 June, open to all aged 11+. No experience is needed and all the equipment is provided.

Gorgs Geikie from Devon, who represented Great Britain at the London Olympics, is organising the 2017 Target Sprint National Series.

Exeter BID has launched a new trade waste scheme which aims to reduce costs on refuse, recycling, glass and food waste collections for levy payers.
