Confidence giving courses at this weekend’s Bicton Arena Horse Trials

Organisers of this weekend’s Bicton Arena Horse Trials are working around the clock to ensure the best going possible for its affiliated competition in light of the long spell of dry weather.

Showjumping, including the warm up area, will take place on all-weather surfaces, the dressage arenas have been watered and the cross country courses have been aggravated with sand on takes offs and landings where appropriate.

Dawlish set for huge games final!

The region’s largest youth sports event is set for Dawlish next weekend with 100os expected to descend on the town for a day of sport, activities, food, entertainment and one or two well-known names. The South West Rotary Youth Games will take place at Dawlish Leisure Centre and surrounding sites on Saturday 7 July with young people from across Devon and Cornwall representing their area teams in 14 sports. Cantilena Songs from the Shows

Join Cantilena at Poltimore House for a summer’s afternoon of light music. The programme will feature songs from a wide range of popular shows, from the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan and the classical jazz hits of Irving Berlin, through to medleys from Oliver, West Side Story and Les Miserables.

Children’s Hospice South West is celebrating after being certified “plastic free” for its events in Devon.

The charity has been working with Plastic Free North Devon to reduce the environmental impact of its fundraising events, which attract support across the whole county. Events including the recent Rainbow Run in Exeter, the forthcoming Ride for Precious Lives cycle challenge, the Canonteign Abseil and September’s foam-filled Bubble Rush 5km run at Coxleigh Barton have all received the Plastic Free North Devon seal of approval for a range of eco-friendly measures.

Stagecoach South West launches consultation on East Exeter services

Stagecoach has announced a consultation on significant service enhancements for bus services in East Exeter, Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton, with revised timetables commencing 3 September 2018.

The enhancements are centred on route 56 and route J. They are primarily designed to increase access to employment to areas on the east of the city including the Science Park, Exeter Airport and businesses located in Middlemoor, Digby and Pynes Hill.

Visitors to Dartmoor National Park during this period of exceptionally warm weather are being asked to be particularly vigilant to reduce the risk of moorland fires.

With the warm weather set to continue, the risk of a fire is becoming an increasing concern.

As a new report is published that illustrates the positive impact employee owned businesses have on the economy, the UK’s first large law firm to become employee owned has backed calls for more support to encourage businesses in the South West to follow its lead.
