Christmas lights switch on all set to wow the crowds

Princesshay and the city centre are all systems go once more for the rescheduled Christmas lights switch on event, which had to be rescheduled due to the atrocious weather conditions yesterday.

Live entertainment will feature on stage from 4.30pm in Princesshay Square, with the lights being switched on by the Lympstone Military Wives Choir and celebrity chef Michael Caines at around 6.30pm. Travel update: the latest on roads in and around Exeter

Travel update: Hele road has now reopened following the overnight road closure due to the collapsed wall.

B3181 in Broadclyst closed at the Town Hill junction, because of flooding.

Hele Road in Exeter closed in both directions near the St David's Hill junction, because of a landslip. One lane closed on A380 southbound in Kenn at Splatford Split, because of a broken down lorry.

Stagecoach update: shuttle service to Topsham

Stagecoach have announced: "We are running a shuttle service from Exeter Bus Station to Topsham with departures from the bus station at approx. 15.30, 16.30 and 17.30.

"The shuttle is to provide a direct link to Topsham in the absence of the 57 being able to serve the village and until the T service resumes operation from from the High Street at 1831."

Environment Agency warns of further flooding

Heavy rain today (Thursday 22nd November) could lead to further flooding across the south west of England this afternoon and evening, the Environment Agency has warned.

Run-off from already wet fields and other areas could lead to further river and surface water flooding, and strong winds could worsen surface water flooding, as wind-blown leaves and debris block drains.

There are currently 33 flood warnings and 56 flood alerts in force.

Exeter City Council and Princesshay have announced that they are having to postpone the Exeter Christmas Lights Switch On event scheduled for this evening, due to the exceptional weather circumstances and the safety of spectators and participants.

The event has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Friday 23rd November from 4.30pm in Princesshay Square.
