Urgent help needed for local Surviving Winter Appeal

600 elderly people in Devon are at risk of dying as a result of fuel poverty this winter. And that's not all, for every additional winter death, there are an estimated eight admissions to hospital, 32 attendances at outpatient care and 30 social service calls. That's 4,800 hospital admissions, 19,200 outpatients and 18,000 social service calls in Devon each year.

Devon's roads still struggling after heavy rainfall

A377 Exeter Road closed in both directions between Crediton and Exeter in Cowley, because of flooding.

A3052 closed in both directions between Sidford and Exeter, because of flooding. Diversion in operation - via A375 toward Honiton and A30.

Stagecoach unable to serve Bradninch from Exeter

Update from Stagecoach:

Service 1 is currently unable to serve Bradninch outbound from Exeter. It is currently serving Pinhoe then diverting along the motorway to Cullompton. Passengers wishing to travel to Brandnich should change at Cullompton as we are able to serve the village in the other direction using a shuttle service.

This is the main road between Crediton and Exeter at Downs Mill, by Ladds computers. The river burst its banks and and running 1-2ft deep across the road. River levels were still rising as of 30mins ago.

Stay safe in heavy rainfall and potential Flooding

With the heavy rainfall over night, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are urging people to be aware of possible flooding and reminding drivers not to risk their lives by driving through any flood water.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are experiencing a high amount of calls to flooding incidents across the Service area. Since the rainfall began early this morning, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have attended 51 incidents due to flooding with 38 incidents still on-going.

A377 impassable to most commuters today

Commuters travelling between Exeter and Crediton faced major disruption today after the A377 was completely flooded.

Only HGVs, tractors and the occasional 4X4 driver like the one pictured above managed to make it through.

Buses full of passengers were forced to turn around and one lorry became stuck for a few minutes when it slid into a ditch.

Traffic was backed up through Crediton and in the other direcation towards Exeter.

It was scene repeated across the county after a night of torrential rain.

Disruption to Stagecoach services due to bad weather

Due to the heavy rain overnight and this morning we are experiencing the following disruptions to our bus services:

Current update from Stagecoach:

Service 57 now operating the full route between Exeter and Brixington, although customers should allow for some delays as we return the service to normal

Service 56 is currently operating a shuttle service between Exeter and Exeter Airport only Service 58 is expected to be operating by lunchtime Service 157 is now running but with some delays whilst we return the service to normal and cannot currently...

Devon battles with the floods after heavy rainfall

Heavy rain and flooding overnight in Devon has cut off some villages, closed roads and disrupted rail services. And things are set to get worse with further rain and wind forecast.

East Devon has been worst hit. Drivers commuting to Exeter from Exmouth continue to face long delays, and drivers are experiencing severe problems with surface water. If your journey is not essential, please avoid using your car until the situation eases up.
