Exeter School on a mission for charity

After 18 months in the planning, Exeter School pupils, parents, staff, friends and alumni are putting their best wheel forward to raise £50,000 for charity, departing from Land’s End on Monday 8 August. The team of twenty riders supported by eight crew, two minibuses, and a trailer will cycle 912.9 miles and 46,929 vertical feet over ten days to raise money for the Children’s Society and The Janine Di-Vincenzo Foundation. Exeter pupils' poetry selected for literary festival

The work of three Exeter School poets has been selected for publication by the Budleigh Salterton Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

The collection of poems will be published in September as part of the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival and the work of five other pupils will also be on display.

The Year 10 pupils were invited to write poetry on the themes of poaching and conservation as part of a Budlitfest creative writing project during their English lessons.

Exeter School's LEJOG stand raises £500 for charity

Exeter School put their best wheel forward by spinning the last leg of the ambitious Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle ride they are carrying out in August.

The intrepid team cycled 199.9 miles, replicating the final stage of the LEJOG route from Inverness to John O’Groats, using three bikes on turbo trainers in Exeter’s Princesshay on Saturday 11 June to raise money for the Janine di Vincenzo Foundation and The Children's Society. They succeeded in raising almost £500 thanks to the generosity of the general public.

Year 10 pupils at Exeter School took part in an improvisation workshop delivered by professional actress and Webber Douglas graduate, Lucy Curtin, last week.

The workshop proved an ideal preparation for a day of workshops organised by the Northcott theatre taking place on Friday 24 June.

Author Kevin Crossley-Holland visits Exeter School

Exeter School was privileged to receive a visit from renowned author, Kevin Crossley-Holland, who is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and President of the School Library Association on Tuesday 10 May. Twenty-two selected pupils in Years 7 and 8 enjoyed a creative writing workshop with the author, who immediately grabbed their attention and challenged their thinking with some Anglo Saxon and modern riddles to solve. Exeter School Chemists are bright sparks

Upper Sixth pupils at Exeter School took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad with four Silver and eight Bronze prizes awarded.

The international competition was the 48th UK Chemistry Olympiad.

Head of Chemistry Richard Tear said this year's competition was extremely challenging.

Two Exeter School Combined Cadet Force (CCF) cadets have been awarded the Jack Sadler Award for outstanding contribution to the combined cadet force contingent (CCF). Warrant Officer and Head of Army section Amanda Herring and Flight Sergeant and Head of the RAF Section Ollie Brady were presented with the brass trophy of an artillery shell case and an engraved medal by Colonel David Carson, Colonel Cadets for the South West.

Exeter School team accelerate into National Final of F1 in Schools Competition

Exeter School's F1 in Schools team, Burning Rubber, has won a place in the National Final of the STEM competition which takes place on Wednesday 20 April.

The team of six Year 10 pupils took four prizes at the F1 in Schools South West Regional Final held at Exeter University on Tuesday 1 March.

Exeter School teacher prepares for London Marathon

An Exeter School PE teacher is preparing for the London Marathon in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Hannah Rhodes chose to raise money for the charity as she has a number of close friends who suffer from diabetes.

Exeter School changes lives with 15th WaterAid concert

For the 15th year running and with support from South West Water and Ashfords Solicitors, the talented young musicians and singers from Exeter School will perform a special concert to raise funds for international charity WaterAid.

All proceeds from the concert, which takes place at St Michael's Church, Heavitree, from 7:30pm on Tuesday 26 April, will go directly to WaterAid projects in Zambia, helping some of the country's poorest communities gain access to clean water and safe sanitation.
