Princesshay to host free family fun day in Easter holidays

On Saturday 15th April, 11am – 4pm, Princesshay Square will be transformed into a vibrant pop-up Family Fun Day with a range of free activities to keep visitors of all ages entertained during the Easter holidays.

Visitors to the event will be able to enjoy live music, a round of crazy golf, giant Jenga, balloon modelling, or get creative with giant colouring wall and free children’s Macramé crafting sessions, plus take part in the Golden Ticket Spring trail to be in with a chance of winning a Devon’s Top Attractions Golden Ticket, worth over £1500!

Roll up, roll up! Big Screen In The Park is coming to town for seven nights of outdoor cinema this summer.

The city’s largest outdoor cinema event returns to Northernhay Gardens from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th August.

Hyde + Seek takes top spot in Exeter BID’s Summer of Independents competition

Hyde + Seek has been crowned Exeter’s Independent Business of the Year by Exeter Business Improvement District (BID). The Summer of Independents competition was launched on 4th July to celebrate the very best of the city’s independently run shops, restaurants, cafes and businesses. A staggering 1,658 people voted for 117 Exeter “indies” during the competition which saw a broad range of businesses nominated by their customers for the chance to win the top accolade: Independent Business of the Year 2017....

Thousands of Chiefs fans cheer their champions

Thousands of Exeter Chiefs fans lined the streets of the City Centre today to welcome home their heroes after they claimed the Aviva Premiership title for the first time in the club’s history.

Review set for Corn Exchange block and South Street

A review is set to be carried out on the future of Exeter’s South Street and the Corn Exchange block in the heart of the city centre.

Members of Exeter City Council’s Scrutiny Economy Committee will be asked to back plans to carry out a review of the area to assess what, if anything, needs to be done to the location in the future.

Cllr Rosie Denham, Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, stressed that the City Council was open minded moving forward but accepted that improvements could be made to the area in light of the changing dynamic of the city centre.

Seagull eats baby pigeon alive

Shoppers watched in horror as a seagull devoured a baby pigeon ALIVE in Exeter city centre.

The stricken young bird was targeted by a lone gull which slowly pecked its prey to death.

Beacon Heath resident William Corden, who witnessed the attack, said some people ran away because the scene was so disturbing.

“I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing,” he said.

“The baby pigeon couldn’t fly and the seagull homed in on it.

“At first I just thought it was some sort of fight but then it became clear that the seagull was eating the poor pigeon alive....

Historic procession for Exeter

The Lammas Glove will be raised above Exeter on Friday as part of a ceremony dating back more than 900 years.

The Proclamation of Lammas Fair takes place on Friday (17 July). Originating from before the Norman Conquest, the Lord Mayor's procession of the Lammas Glove, includes civic dignitaries and local school children, some in period costume.

Suspicious packages picture gallery

There were dramatic scene in Exeter city centre today after two suspicious packages were found in separate locations.

The first package was found in York Road, near Sidwell Street.

A second suspect package has been found at the King William Street Car Park in Exeter City Centre at around 9.15am today.

Exeter Daily reader Sam Richards captured the developments.
