Short full of praise for Chiefs pack

Hat-trick hero James Short praised the contribution of the Exeter Chiefs pack as they brushed aside the attentions of Worcester Warriors in their latest Aviva Premiership encounter on Saturday.

The talented winger took his seasonal tally to ten touchdowns with his timely treble at Sixways, but it was the efforts of those around him – particularly up front – that the 27-year-old was quick to highlight following his side’s 48-32 success.

“You’re always glad to be on the scoresheet, but I thought the forwards were outstanding,” said Short. “They really pushed Worcester around...

Rob Baxter says his Exeter Chiefs squad are ‘fully focused’ on the task ahead as they gear up for tomorrow’s Aviva Premiership trip to Worcester Warriors (3pm). Fresh from a hard fought draw against table-toppers Wasps last Sunday, the Chiefs will be looking to consolidate their top three position by inflicting yet another league defeat on their hosts, who themselves warmed up for this latest clash by downing reigning champions Saracens on their own turf last time out. In nine previous top flight meetings between Worcester and Exeter, it’s been a whitewash of victories for Devon’s finest....

Chiefs U18s squad set for Academy Finals Day

Rob Gibson wants his Exeter Chiefs Under-18s side to finish their season on a high note when they tackle Wasps in tomorrow’s Academy Finals Day at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium (2.30pm).

Having finished their Southern Group league fixtures with a 45-0 thumping of previously unbeaten Harlequins last Saturday, the Chiefs will head to the Midlands in buoyant mood and looking to put the seal on a campaign which has brought plenty of high points.

With only one defeat all season – that was at home to Saracens – the Devonians have come together well to produce not only a series of...

Chiefs bring in Roberts on loan

Exeter Chiefs have today strengthened their options at scrum-half with the addition of Welsh international Martin Roberts.

The 30-year-old has joined on loan until the end of the season from Aviva Premiership rivals Bristol Rugby and will help supplement the half-back area with the Chiefs currently without the injured trio of Will Chudley, Dave Lewis and Niko Matawalu.

In welcoming Roberts to Sandy Park, head coach Rob Baxter said: “People are aware where we stand at the moment because of significant injuries to both Will Chudley and Dave Lewis – and don’t get me wrong I...

Chiefs maintain top three place

Exeter Chiefs maintained their top three placing in the Aviva Premiership with a hard-fought draw against leaders Wasps at Sandy Park.

In what was a pulsating encounter from start to finish, Rob Baxter’s side couldn’t quite sneak over the finish line to secure maximum reward, this despite playing most of the second half with 14 men following a red card for lock Jonny Hill.

Joe Simpson’s converted score ten minutes from time enabled the visitors to claim a share of the spoils and maintain their lofty position after 14 rounds of battle.

Earlier, the two sides had...

Sam Simmonds has every reason to be beaming with delight today as not only is he set to make his Aviva Premiership debut, but the young Exeter Chiefs forward has also penned a new two-year deal with the Devon club.

The 22-year-old will celebrate his latest contract by packing down at No.8 for Rob Baxter’s side when they play host to Wasps at Sandy Park (1pm).

It’s rich reward for the Teignmouth youngster, who has shown in recent weeks his growing stature within the ranks at the Chiefs, producing two eye-catching displays against Wasps and Bristol in the Anglo-Welsh Cup....

Exeter Chiefs return to Aviva Premiership action on Sunday (1pm) with head coach Rob Baxter keen for his side to pick up from where they left off just a month ago.

In what was seen as a testing block of fixtures against top four rivals Leicester Tigers, Bath and Saracens, the Devon club emerged from that sequence of games with a profitable 11 points out of a possible 15.

That return not only helped inflict some timely damage on those around the Chiefs, but it also propelled Baxter’s side firmly into the top four and in control of their own destiny to reach this season’s...
