Chiefs will get stronger, insists Woodburn

It's perhaps a sign of expectation levels at Sandy Park that even five-point victories are now being heavily scrutinised by Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter and his players.

Baxter admitted post-match following his side's 30-25 Aviva Premiership win over Sale Sharks that there were elements of Exeter's game that needed to be addressed - and that a repeat performance would not be looked upon favourably moving forward.

“I can’t be happy at us playing at that level and we need to shake ourselves up for the remainder the season,” said Baxter post-match at Sandy Park. “We...

Armand targeting big final push

Don Armand insists Exeter Chiefs will make the most of time off to ensure they are in fine fettle for the visit of lowly Bristol to Sandy Park in the Aviva Premiership next month.

Having failed to advance through the group stages of this season’s European Champions Cup, the Chiefs are set to have their first weekend off since the start of the season as others battle it out for Europe’s top prize.

The chance to recharge the batteries at a crucial stage of the season will certainly be welcomed, but the rest will only be short-lived for Rob Baxter’s squad as they gear up for...

Chiefs 30 Sharks 25

Exeter Chiefs netted themselves another five-point haul, but head coach Rob Baxter was far from happy despite seeing his side maintain their top two status with this hard-fought victory over visiting Sale Sharks.

The Chiefs survived a real scare from Steve Diamond’s side to record their 11th league win of the campaign courtesy of tries from Kai Horstmann, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Olly Woodburn and Don Armand, but those were the key highlights in a performance that Baxter insisted post-match lacked any real intensity.

Sale made the most of favourable conditions to dominate for...

Chiefs side to face Sale Sharks

Ali Hepher believes Exeter Chiefs still have areas to work on as their Aviva Premiership season heads towards the final straight. Undefeated in the top flight since late October, the Chiefs have produced an impressive run of results that has not only propelled them to second in the current standings, but has put them firmly on course for home advantage in the end of season play-offs. With just five rounds of the scheduled season remaining, three of which will be played at Sandy Park, Hepher says it’s imperative his side not only maintain their current performance levels, but in turn also...

Nowell relishing Chiefs return

Cornishman Jack Nowell says he cannot wait to pull on an Exeter Chiefs jersey again as he gears up for the club’s return to Aviva Premiership action against Sale Sharks at Sandy Park on Saturday (3pm).

Nowell has watched from afar as his team-mates have quietly gone about their business in the top flight, positioning themselves nicely in the top two with just five rounds of the scheduled season remaining.

Now, the 23-year-old is looking to play his own part in Exeter’s final run-in, returning to Devon fresh off the back of helping England secure a second RBS Six Nations...

Cup woe for battling Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs 12 Leicester Tigers 16 In the week of the world famous Cheltenham Festival, Exeter Chiefs came a cropper in the final furlong as Leicester Tigers took the honours in this season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Despite a spirited second half showing from Ricky Pellow’s side, they left themselves too much to do against English rugby’s most decorated club.

The Tigers lifted the Anglo-Welsh prize for the third time thanks to a first half try from winger Tom Brady and the boot of prized fly-half Freddie Burns.

The Chiefs countered with a first half try from winger James...

Jack Nowell fronts new film to encourage safer driving among students

Jack Nowell, part of England’s record-breaking rugby union side, is supporting a high profile campaign in the South West to encourage young drivers and their passengers to take responsibility for the way they and their friends drive.

As part of the Learn2Live road safety initiative, Jack appears in a new film created by Exeter-based Wide Eye, in which he talks about his personal experience of being involved in a road traffic accident and encourages young drivers to attend the Learn2Live events.

Filmed at the Exeter Chiefs’ home ground, Jack – patron of The Honest Truth road...

White 'excited' by Chiefs move

Nic White says he is looking forward to an “exciting” future after he today sealed his move to Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs. The Australian international, who will join this summer from French Top 14 club Montpellier-Herault Rugby, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal is the latest new addition brought to Sandy Park by head coach Rob Baxter. Capped 22 times by the Wallabies, the 26-year-old scrum-half made his Super Rugby debut with the Brumbies in 2011 and went on to feature for the Canberra-based club 67 times over the next four years, before in 2015 he made the switch to...

Chiefs side to face Tigers

Ricky Pellow has told his Exeter Chiefs side to go and “finish the job” as they prepare to face rivals Leicester Tigers in the Anglo-Welsh Cup Final at the Twickenham Stoop on Sunday (3pm).

Having booked their place in the first showpiece event of the season with a 24-7 victory over Harlequins a week ago, now the Chiefs must look to replicate that winning formula against English rugby’s most decorated club side.

The Tigers, who themselves won at defending champions Saracens, pose the final threat to Pellow and his Chiefs, who will be participating in their third successive...
