Exeter ranked top university in South West

The University of Exeter is the top university in the southwest according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.

The university, which was The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for 2012-13, ranks 9= in this year’s league table. The Southwest region is well represented in the wider top 20 with Bath ranking 12th in the UK and Bristol 19th.

Exeter Youth Flutes is an exciting new ensemble for flautists aged 8 - 18. The musical director and founder of Exeter Youth Flutes is Ruth Molins. Ruth has over ten years' experience of teaching the flute and coaching ensembles in the South West. The mission of EYF is to be a welcoming flute ensemble for young flute players in Exeter and the locality, providing a quality, musical experience with regular rehearsals and performance opportunities. 143 students at Isca Academy are receiving their GCSE results today and we are extremely proud to report that they have achieved an impressive set of figures, with the Academy’s results improving once again.

M&S and Willowbrook Primary School, a community school in Beacon’s Heath, are calling on local people to roll up their sleeves and Spark Something Good in a week of volunteering that will positively impact 24 projects at the heart of the community in Exeter and Plymouth.

Fundraising event for outdoor classroom

A Fundraising Event has been planned for Exeter Forest School Kindergarten, to raise funds for a new outdoor classroom, to enable young children to learn and experience the outdoors.

The event will bring together families across Exeter at Riverside Leisure Centre on Saturday 3rd September from 3pm until 7pm to enjoy a range of games and activities for all ages, including a giant inflatable assault course and forest school activities. Construction Consultants Haldons Ltd. present a cheque of £1000 to Combe Pafford in Torquay, a school which caters for pupils with learning and physical difficulties.

Harold the Giraffe, the mascot of children’s charity Life Education Wessex (LEW), is going on the road for a week from Monday 11th July to spread the word about an exciting online resource available without charge to schools from September.

Study throws light on school absences

A study commissioned by Devon County Council has looked into the reasons why some children miss school due to anxiety.

The findings are helping the Council provide practical advice and information to schools in order that they can better support students, enabling them to keep up their attendance.

Educational Psychologists conducted the study as part of a wider exploration of ‘anxiety based school avoidance’ across Devon.
