With the FIFA World Cup less than two weeks away, Devon and Cornwall Police is launching its annual summer drink and drug driving crackdown. Sunday, June 1, 2014, will see the launch of the initiative in support of a wider national campaign to reduce risk on our roads. The consequences of driving while over the limit the morning after drinking are a particular focus of the campaign with late night World Cup matches, including England games, taking place from Thursday, June 12. Despite long term reductions, drink driving still accounts for 15% of road deaths and almost 10,000 casualties...

Heavy rain forces festival cancellation

Moretonhampstead Festival of food and drink has been rained off despite not due to take place for another six weeks.

The Organising Committee of the festival took the decision to cancel the Festival due to the exceptional level of recent rain making the fields used for parking unsafe for users.

Bob Small the festival’s lead organiser explained the decision of the committee: “Even if we had six weeks of no rain from today the fields would still be far too wet.

“The ground on the fields would be unsuitable, unsafe, possibly even dangerous to use.”
