Half of people in SW have heart disease fears

Over half of people in the South West have someone in their family with risk factors that put them greater risk of heart disease, according to new statistics released ahead of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Wear it. Beat it. campaign to get the nation wearing red to fight heart disease on Friday 5th February.

The BHF poll revealed over half of people in the South West (53%) fear that a loved one could be struck down with a potentially life-threatening heart attack or stroke in the future. Over two fifths (41%) have already lost someone or know a loved one affected by heart...

Spend an evening stargazing in East Devon

The popular BBC Stargazing Live series has inspired people across the UK to spend an evening gazing at the stars! The TV show which aired last week (January 12th – 15th) introduced viewers to the wonders of the night sky.

In his final report on the East Devon Local Plan, published on Monday 18 January 2016, Inspector Anthony Thickett has acknowledged the importance of Cranbrook in the provision of new houses and jobs in East Devon. Gritters prepare for countywide freeze

Devon County Council's gritting teams are preparing for the coldest night of the season so far with the forecast of a countywide freeze overnight (TUESDAY JAN 19th).

Road surface temperatures are set to drop below freezing across Devon from early evening, with lows of -6.3C expected in East Devon.

South West law firm Stephens Scown LLP has helped a man win his long fight against construction giant Balfour Beatty after he blew the whistle over what appeared to him to be a deception of the Welsh Government.

Nigel McArthur, from Exmouth in Devon, was a regional pre-construction manager at Balfour Beatty. He worked at the company for nearly ten years and had nearly 40 years’ experience in the construction industry.

People with dementia gain from learning self-management skills

People with early-stage dementia benefit when they are empowered to manage their own condition, a study led by researchers at the University of Exeter has found.

Research involving Bangor University and published in the journal International Psychogeriatrics, found that attending weekly ‘self-management’ group sessions which encouraged socialisation, discussion, problem solving and goal setting fostered independence and promoted social support amongst people with dementia.

Stagecoach expands Smart ticketing across SW

Stagecoach South West confirmed today that it is expanding its smart ticketing scheme across the region.

From Monday (18th January), all Megarider tickets* bought on board Stagecoach South West buses will be stored on StagecoachSmart cards. Drivers will issue customers with a smartcard, which will store their ticket electronically, instead of using a paper ticket.

The expanded smart ticketing scheme offers customers a more convenient, simple and greener approach to buying and using their bus ticket.
