Chiefs side to face Ospreys

Advancing into the last eight of Europe may seem a tall order for the Exeter Chiefs, but head coach Rob Baxter is refusing to give up hope and wants his side to finish their Pool Two programme on a high against the Ospreys today (Sunday) at Sandy Park (3:15pm).

Last Saturday’s 34-27 reverse away to Bordeaux-Begles means the Chiefs need to accrue maximum reward against the Welsh region this weekend, whilst hope results elsewhere in France between Clermont-Auvergne and Bordeaux-Begles fall in the right direction for them.

Trees removed to protect Exeter’s Roman Wall

Monday 25th January sees the start of some major tree works on Roman Walk, adjacent to Exeter’s Roman wall.

The works form part of a broader project to prevent tree root damage to the Scheduled Ancient Monument and further enhance this area of Princesshay.

Woodbury-based Dartmoor Tree Surgeons will be undertaking the works over four days, with some of the larger sections of timber being dismantled with the help of a crane on Wednesday 27th January.

Exeter School artists prepare for professional art exhibition

Pupils studying AS Art and Design are currently preparing for an exhibition of their work, based on the theme of ‘Decay’, in the Brook Gallery in Exeter, from 25 to 29 January.

Exeter School will be the first school to display pupils’ work in ‘The White Room’ in the Gallery as part of their new educational programme.

Gallery Manager, Angela Yarwood, met with the pupils at the start of term to talk to them about all the aspects which are involved in putting on an exhibition, including selecting and presenting the work, promoting the exhibition and writing artist statements...

Adopt SW prioritises search for adoptive families

Adopt South West prepares to re-launch its TV campaign this week with emphasis falling on encouraging those who would consider adopting ‘priority’ children to come forward.

The appeal comes as Somerset County Council joins the partnership alongside Barnardo’s, Devon County Council, and Families for Children, Plymouth City Council and Torbay Council, to promote adoption.

Police concerned for missing Sidney Ellis

SUNDAY: Sidney Ellis has been found, safe and well. Police thank everyone for their help.

Police are concerned for the welfare of 73-year-old Sidney Ellis, who is missing from the Kingsbridge area of Devon.

It is believed that Mr Ellis may be in the North Devon area having driven to the location in his Silver coloured Peugeot 207 5 door hatchback registration number KR11KNL.

It is possible that he is no longer with his vehicle.

Community learning helps adults with mental health issues

Adults across Devon suffering from mental health issues are being helped in their recovery thanks to a free community learning project.

Since adult learning provider Learn Devon launched the project in April last year 180 adults have been given a helping hand.

The project provides a range of free, creative, motivational and outdoors courses to help sufferers to develop strategies to help them recover.

It aims to help people who have mild to moderate mental health issues including anxiety, depression and sleep disorders.
