The number of Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimants in Devon fell to 3,237 during May, the lowest on record.
In Devon the total number of claimants fell 75 when compared to the previous month April.
Seven of Devon’s eight districts experiencing small falls in JSA, ranging between 6 and 8 claimants. Exeter being the exception, with a rise of just 5 claimants over the period.
The claimant rate (proportion of the county’s working age population claiming JSA) remained largely unchanged, South Hams and West Devon falling by just 0.1%.
The UK’s membership of the European Union has helped boost job creation and growth in the South West for more than forty years, with as many as 250,000 jobs in the region currently linked to exports to the Single Market, the CBI argues.
According to figures from HM Treasury, there is the potential to create 74,340 future jobs for the South West if the UK remains in the EU, and continues to deepen economic ties with its member states.

The governors of Tipton St John Primary School have announced ambitious plans to re-locate their ageing, flood-prone buildings to a brand new site.
The Church of England school has been flooded on a number of occasions with children being evacuated and the school being shut for major clean-up operations.

Poor weather conditions have forced a planned road closure on the A361 North Devon Link Road to be postponed again.
The closure for resurfacing work between Bolham roundabout and Station Road, South Molton, was due to take place between 6am and 4pm from Tuesday 21 June to Thursday 23 June.
