City make it seven wins in a row

It was a record-breaking afternoon at Exeter City as they made seven wins a row, with a 4-0 win over Crewe Alexandra, to stay fourth in the League Two table.

City’s previous longest winning streak in a season had been six in a row, set in 1904/05 season and repeated in 1932/33 and 1976/77.

Added to that David Wheeler also scored for the seventh consecutive match, which broke a club record set by Henry Poulter in the 1932/33 campaign.

Local bird watcher spots rarely seen bird at East Devon managed heathland site near Axminster

At the end of January, a rare Little Bunting bird was spotted by a local bird watcher at Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve, a heathland managed by the East Devon District Council Countryside service.

Little Buntings are rarely seen in the UK, they breed in the far North East of Europe and across Northern Asia, typically spending winter in Southern Asia, China and India. Easterly winds, which dominated Autumn 2016, resulted in only a few being detected in the UK.

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has released its latest advice trend figures.

These show a 10% increase in enquiries from clients about welfare benefits and tax credits, compared to the same period in 2015.

Citizens Advice Exeter has helped 5,972 people with advice and information across all enquiry areas since 1 April 2016.

The UK’s most daring dating show, Naked Attraction returns to Channel 4 in 2017 - and it wants South West residents to take part.

Louisa Johnson, the youngest ever winner of the X Factor, has been named as special guest at pop superstar Olly Murs’ outdoor concert at historic Powderham Castle, near Exeter on Saturday, July 29.

The 19-year-old starlet won the 2015 series of the TV talent show at the age of 17 with Simon Cowell calling her ‘the best singer he had ever seen on the show’.

Antique jewellery taken in Exmouth burglary

Police seeking witnesses after a large amount of jewellery was taken from an Exmouth home.

Offenders got inside the property in Valley Way sometime between 10.30am on Tuesday 24 January and 12.30pm on Thursday 26 January.

They made an untidy search of the premises before stealing around 40 items of jewellery including some antique items of huge sentimental value.

Among the items stolen were a 100-year-old 18ct gold ring with diamonds and an 18ct pearl and amethyst ring which is around 70-years-old, plus a very old garnet bracelet and set of garnet earrings.
