Join forces for World Cancer Day

Everyone across the South West is being asked to unite on World Cancer Day, Saturday 4 February, to help beat cancer sooner. Researchers in Exeter have got together to highlight the day following news of a £5m grant in funding to improve the early detection of cancers in GP surgeries. Cancer Research UK is calling on men, women and children to play their part by wearing a Unity Band or donating. ‘Heaven Sent’ Sculpture heads to Princesshay

This spring, Princesshay will play host to a large and exciting sculpture across the Easter period for three weeks.

On 31st March, ‘Heaven Sent’, a partially complete sculpture by Exeter based artist, Simon Ruscoe, will be unveiled in Princesshay, standing on a plinth which will be specially designed to encourage the people of Exeter to support his Kickstarter campaign whilst collecting donations for NSPCC.

Princesshay has today announced local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as its 2017 charity partner.

Each year the shopping destination supports a different local charity. This year Princesshay hopes to help raise awareness that CHSW are the children’s hospice for local families in the Exeter area, through fundraising and events.

Appeal after Dawlish man sprayed in face with chemicals

At around 2.30pm on Monday 30 January 2017, two men approached a man in his 50s, close to the junction with Lawn Hill and The Strand.

The man, who is an employee of a nearby shop, was taking the weekend takings to be banked. He was sprayed in the face with a substance and the cash was stolen by these two men.

The offenders made their way from the scene on foot, running up Lawn Hill, turning left on to High Street before turning right again and running up Orchard Gardens. The offenders were followed by one or two young men on push bikes.

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is reminding local people that there is only one week left to complete their economic well-being survey.

The survey will highlight the current financial and employment situation in Exeter.

Exeter to offer prestigious scholarship for American students

The University of Exeter has entered into an important strategic partnership, designed to enable America’s leading students to embark on postgraduate studies at one of the UK’s leading universities.

New Devon renal unit officially opened

Patients in North Devon can now access a brand new renal facility in Barnstaple to undergo their life-saving kidney dialysis treatment.

The opening of the satellite renal unit was officially marked by staff and patients from the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) and partner Fresenius Medical Care at an event to celebrate the project’s completion.
