Amelia Moody from the Maynard School in Exeter looks all over to become the next Jo Pavey after taking an outstanding 6th place at her first ever South West Schools’ Cross Country Championships in Truro last Saturday.

Until recently, the 15-year old from Okehampton was unaware of her untapped talent and it was only when teachers urged her to enter into a local cross-country race earlier this year that her incredible gift came to the surface. Blundell’s Prep pupils raise funds for blood bikes

Pupils from Blundell’s Prep School, Tiverton, were thrilled to hand over more than £2000 to Devon Freewheelers, the emergency courier service. The youngsters raised the money during the autumn term through a variety of initiatives including selling Christmas cards that they had designed, collections taken at their carol service and running games and selling second hand books and toys and refreshments at their Christmas market. They were inspired to donate the money to Devon Freewheelers after Steve Nash, a volunteer with the service, came into school to talk to them about the organisation...

Warning after Exmouth fire started by phone charger

A phone charger started a fire which caused significant damage to an Exmouth teenager’s bedroom in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to St Margaret’s View at 1.19am and extinguished the fire in a first floor bedroom using a hose reel jet. The room was damaged by fire, heat and smoke.

The girl had seen a fire in the corner of the room and woke the rest of the family. Her mother closed the door of the bedroom and the family were able to leave the house.

Record year for new business In Devon

New figures just out show that more new companies were registered in Devon during 2016 than in any previous year.

A total of 5,703 new businesses were established in the county compared to 5,394 in 2015.

The number of registered companies in Devon now totals 47,095, up from 44,917 at the end of 2015, which equates to 4.8% growth.

The statistics come from the Inform Direct Review of UK Company Formations, using data from Companies House and the Office of National Statistics.

The University of Exeter has launched its most ambitious philanthropic Campaign to date to reinforce its position as one of the leading research institutions worldwide.

The ‘Making the Exceptional Happen’ Campaign will raise £60 million by 2020 to support research into shared global challenges, including climate change, chronic disease and food security. The funds raised will leverage a further £100 million from research and corporate partners over this period.
