Devon and Cornwall PCC expenses inquiry file sent to CPS

The investigation into the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez, which relates to spending at the 2015 General Election, will be referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The Independent Police Complaints Commission, has confirmed it intends to pass the file to the CPS, after an investigation by West Mercia Police. It is for the CPS to consider whether any charges should be brought. High-flying Exeter Chiefs have forged a partnership with a top concert promoter to cross-support events.

Exeter's Premier League, rugby club, Exeter Chiefs and Stephen C Associates (SCA) have linked to support each other’s activities throughout the rest of 2017.

County Council sets out highway maintenance programme

Devon County Council’s Cabinet has approved the authority’s programme of highway maintenance for the financial year.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has awarded the Council £51.4 million for its capital budget in 2017/18. This includes allocations from the Pothole Action Fund, National Productivity Investment Fund, Incentive Fund and Challenge Fund, which will be used for planned structural maintenance on Devon’s 8,000 miles of roads - the biggest highway network of any authority in the country.

Two in five SW GPs to “quit within five years”

Around two in every five GPs in the South West have said they intend to quit within the next five years, exposing the magnitude of the region’s impending healthcare crisis suggesting that the picture for the UK may be particularly challenging.

The University of Exeter’s recent largescale survey of GPs across the region also found that seven out of ten GPs intend to change their working patterns in a way that would mean less contact with patients. This included leaving patient care, taking a career break, or reducing their hours.

Exeter Comedy Grove welcome Red Dwarf star Norman Lovett to The Barnfield Theatre on Wednesday 10th May.

Norman AKA Holly will be headlining a special one off show in Exeter with support comedians including regular MC Cerys Nelmes.

Born in Windsor, Berkshire, Norman was well into his thirties before he decided to become a stand-up comedian.

He played the original Comedy Store many times and even supported the Clash, one of the personal highlights of his career.

Green light to revitalise Exmouth seafront

East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee has given the green light to move forward with proposals to revitalise Exmouth seafront.

The district council, who are the landowners at Queen’s Drive, already has outline planning permission to develop the area for leisure facilities. It’s latest application - called ‘Reserved Matters’ – concerned the scale, access, appearance and landscaping of the site which was approved by councillors by ten votes to four.
