Christmas comes early to Bramble Ward thanks to City stars

Exeter City Football Club’s first-team players brought early Christmas magic to the children and teenagers on Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, by paying them a special festive visit.



The players delivered dozens of bears, toys, calendars, footballs, signed merchandise, selection boxes and chocolates to the young patients who are sadly spending the festive period on the ward.

The players who visited the ward were captain Jordan Moore-Taylor, Dean Moxey, Jake Taylor, Lloyd James, Craig Woodman, Ryan Brunt and Robbie Simpson.

Macmillan gives over £124,800 to keep Devon cancer patients above the breadline

Macmillan Cancer Support has revealed that in 2016 it gave out grants totalling approximately £124,8001, to Devon residents who were struggling with the financial hardship that cancer can bring. Across the south west region, the charity provided just over £849,3001 in grants to help keep cancer patients financially afloat last year. With hundreds of Devon cancer patients relying on charity handouts to stay above the breadline, Macmillan Cancer Support is calling on the Government to change the law to ensure banks do more to ‘play their part’ as the financial crisis for cancer patients...

Travis Perkins plc has purchased a key development site in the middle of Exeter's biggest commercial estate, representing the city's largest industrial property deal of the year.

Tim Western, lead director of property consultancy JLL in Exeter, represented the vendor, Palace Capital, in the sale jointly with Alder King.

Whitehorse Hill excavation nominated for award

A dig which unearthed the remains of a Bronze Age burial on Dartmoor in 2011 has been nominated for a prestigious archaeology award.

The discovery of a unique collection of Bronze Age grave goods on Whitehorse Hill was made by archaeologists working for Dartmoor National Park Authority on Wednesday 10 August 2011 while excavating a prehistoric burial situated at over 600 metres above sea level on Dartmoor.

SWASFT raise over £20,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer

The staff from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has been supporting CLIC Sargent since 2008 raising £23,927.52 for young lives vs cancer through the Pennies from Heaven Scheme.

Over 4000 members of staff from the trust took part in the Pennies from Heaven Scheme, which meant that their wages were rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies being donated to CLIC Sargent. “Inspirational” activity leader wins community award for free exercise group

A community-minded sports officer at the University of Exeter has won an award for setting up a free fitness session in a city park.

Paul Mouland, who works in the Sports department at the University, won a DevonLive Community Honours award after setting up Freemoovement in Barton Fields Park, St Thomas in May in his own time. The first inaugural awards celebrate inspirational people who have made their communities better places.
