Exeter’s cultural organisations must “hold our nerve” and continue to drive cultural development according to a planning presentation by the Exeter Cultural Partnership.

Rugby World Cup ticket sales delayed

The community tickets launch for Rugby World Cup 2015 has been unexpectedly delayed following a request by booking agents, Ticketmaster. 500,000 tickets, available in limited numbers from clubs and RFU affiliated organisations, were expected to go on sale this afternoon (Friday 16 May) as part of the build-up to next year’s World Cup games. But rugby fans will now have to wait until 1pm on 29 May following a last-minute request from Ticketmaster for more time to test the online ticketing system. The September launch for the general sale of world cup tickets is unaffected by today’s delay....

Devon County Council has announced its new Chairman for the next year.

Outgoing Chairman Councillor Bernard Hughes OBE handed over to the Council's new Chairman, Councillor George Gribble at a meeting of the Full Council this week.

Councillor George John Gribble is local member representing Bovey Tracey Rural, the town in which he was born and has lived all his life, serving on many of the County Council's Committees.

Police axe half of public enquiry offices

Devon and Cornwall Police are expected to close more than half of their public front offices in a controversial bid to save money. Across the two counties the force is expected to fully close 10 out of 21 public front offices while the Newquay desk will only open during summer. The public desks at Exmouth, Tiverton, Honiton, Okehampton, Newton Abbot, Totnes Falmouth, Penzance, Launceston, Bude and Liskeard will all be closed under the plans. Health centre gives support at Exeter Pride

Sexual health staff from the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust played their part in Exeter Pride, an annual festival aimed at the city’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.

Staff from The Centre – the sexual health service based at the NHS walk-in centre in Sidwell Street – linked up with The Eddystone Trust to run a stand outside the Exeter Phoenix on Saturday.

Sidmouth Recycling Centre one of top 4 in the country

Devon's latest recycling centre in Sidmouth has made it into the finals in a prestigious national competition.

The site was announced as a 'runner up' in the Civic Amenity Site of the Year category in this years Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management organised by letsrecycle.com, making it one of the best in the UK.

An Exeter-based agency of British Sign Language interpreters has been awarded the contract by Devon County Council to be its preferred supplier of interpreters.

According to recent research the Deaf community is suffering as a result of lack of access to BSL interpreters, with many suffering health issues due to reasons such as a lack of information, poor communication, and unnecessary difficulties in getting to the doctor in the first place. A short film by a University of Exeter film student has been selected to be showcased as part of Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. Aygul Bakanova’s film the‘Void’, includes famous actors and is the product of collaboration with the Danish director Milad Alami. The film takes place on a ferry from Køge to Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea. It features a star-studded cast including Lars Mikkelsen of The Killing, Borgen and Sherlock fame, and Game of Thrones actor Dar Salim.
