Exeter Chamber crucial to Exeter’s success

Exeter City Council Chief Exec and Growth Director, Karime Hassan has recognised Exeter Chamber of Commerce as crucial to Exeter’s success at a recent networking event to start the celebrations of the Chamber’s 150th anniversary year.

At the event Mr Hassan noted, how key individuals including vice president of the Chamber, Derek Phillips, had played an important, long term, role in the continued success of the city’s economy, including strategic developments outside the city.

Visit South Devon and Heart of Devon to merge

Visit South Devon and Heart of Devon have today announced that they will be merging to create a new super Area Tourism Partnership (ATP).

Economies of scale resulting from the merger will give the expanded Area Tourism Partnership a larger overall marketing budget, which will be used to increase the number of day visits, short breaks, longer holidays and business trips to Mid Devon, East Devon, Exeter and its city surrounds, Teignbridge and South Hams.

One week left to complete Exeter BID survey

City centre businesses are being asked to take part in a survey to help establish businesses priorities for Exeter over the next five years.

The survey asks business managers and owners to share their opinions and ideas on a variety of topics including marketing, events and festivals, security, cleanliness, transport and accessibility.

Derek Phillips, chairman of the Exeter BID company, said: “While the BID company and ambassadors are continuing to meet with people in person, it is imperative that businesses within the BID area share their views with us via the survey.”...

Over 120 delegates attended the RWC Business Conference on Monday 29th September which was held at Sandy Park Conference Centre.

At the conference, delegates were split into 7 groups to discuss any risks, opportunities, actions and the knowledge needed to produce the best business legacy for the Rugby World Cup in 2015.

Sectors that were discussed included Retail, Hospitality & Attractions, Export & Trade, Inward Investment, Business Marketing & Branding, Business Growth, Development & Buddying and Transport & Communications.

Holiday park celebrates ‘best summer ever’

One of Devon’s largest independent holiday parks is celebrating its busiest summer ever.

Ladram Bay Holiday Park, situated on the Jurassic coast between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton, saw nearly 6,000 holidaymakers stay in July and August.

The business, which has been in the same family for four generations since Devon farmer Bill Carter took on part of a small tenanted farm in 1942, had 7,640 people stay over the two summer months, with 1,800 bookings taken for a total of 15,300 ‘nights’. Revenue was up eight per cent on the same period last year.

Exeter businesses indicate an end to the employee pay freeze

The latest Exeter Business Survey, carried out by Exeter Chamber of Commerce, shows the highest ever percentage of Exeter businesses planning to increase employees salaries.

90% of businesses surveyed said they will not be implementing a pay freeze for their staff, the highest figure since the survey began in March 2007.

Thousands expected on Tour of Britain route

A quarter of a million people are expected to line the route of the Tour of Britain as it makes its way through Devon on Thursday 11 September.

Businesses and traders are hoping spectators will once again turn out in force to make it a day to remember – providing a final ‘end of summer’ boost to the local economy.
