Exeter businesses joined by Bank of England Deputy Governor, Charlie Bean

Exeter Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Charlie Bean on 6 September 2013 to report the findings of their Exeter Business Survey, for the last quarter. In addition, local business leaders, representing business in Exeter and its sub-region, were invited to attend the meeting and share their view of business in the area over the same period.

The mood was buoyant, with survey responses indicating a significant shift in members reporting increased sales and margins over the last quarter: the largest number of members reporting increased sales and margin growth in over 5 years.

Also significantly, the lowest number of respondents are proposing a pay freeze since records began in March 2009.
Derek Phillips, vice president of Exeter Chamber, said: “The great summer weather appears to have driven trade across the city and appears to echo the national position as outlined by the Chancellor this week. We hope this will continue for the rest of the year.”
