City centre businesses are being asked to take part in a survey to help establish businesses priorities for Exeter over the next five years.

The survey asks business managers and owners to share their opinions and ideas on a variety of topics including marketing, events and festivals, security, cleanliness, transport and accessibility.

Derek Phillips, chairman of the Exeter BID company, said: “While the BID company and ambassadors are continuing to meet with people in person, it is imperative that businesses within the BID area share their views with us via the survey.”

The survey will close at noon on Thursday 20 November 2014 and initial results will be published on the Exeter BID website the following week.

Comments, opinions and findings from the survey will be used to inform the development of the Exeter BID business plan which will be launched at an event on 8 December 2014 (city centre venue to be confirmed).

The BID (Business Improvement District) is an initiative that would see £485,000 raised annually for Exeter via a 1% levy on annual business rates.  Unlike business rates, which go straight to central Government, these funds would stay within the BID area and be spent by the businesses within Exeter.

This pot of money will act as seed corn to attract other funds to be spent exclusively in the BID area. In addition there will initiatives that will save money for businesses in the BID area through, for example, collective purchasing and bulk buying.

A total of  641 business rate-payers within the proposed BID area are eligible to vote on the Business Plan early next year. The document will be released to voters and will be available online at the end of  2014.
