Serious collision closes section of M5 near Exeter

Police and other emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision on the M5 northbound near Cullompton.

Officers were called just after 12.10pm on Tuesday 27 January after reports of a collision between a car and a lorry, about one mile before junction 28, Cullompton.

The female car driver has been seriously injured.

The extent of injuries of the other occupants in the vehicle and the lorry driver are not yet known.

The northbound carriageway has been closed between Exeter, junction 29, and Cullompton.

Digital war memorials for the county

Devon County Council has been involved in the national launch of the Digital War Memorial.

Major blaze at Devon farm

Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a farm in Cullompon today.

The report from the control team is below:

The Fire Service received several calls reporting a barn on fire at Clayhidon, Cullompton. Two fire appliance from Wellington, two fire appliances Taunton and the water carrier from Bridgwater attended.

Fire crews confirmed two barns well alight. All stock had been removed from the barns prior to the arrival of the Fire Service. The fire was spreading to an adjacent workshop.

M5 Northbound re-opens after crash

UPDATE: All lanes have been reopened on the M5 Northbound.

Delays are easing on M5 northbound between J29, A30 (Exeter) and J28, A373 (Cullompton Services)

The 32 year-old woman airlifted to Derriford hospital has sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her arm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 98 of 04/12/13.

19 year sentence for child sex offender

John Bidmead a 65 year-old former lorry driver has been sentenced to a 19 year prison sentence for child sex offences in Exeter Crown court today.

Bidmead from Cullompton was found with over a million images and videos of child pornography on his computer.

Police began investigating Bidmead after Interpol alerted them that Bidmead had been downloading the images.

A raid on his house caught Bidmead in the act of watching child pornography.
