M5 Northbound re-opens after crash

UPDATE: All lanes have been reopened  on the M5 Northbound.

Delays are easing on M5 northbound between J29, A30 (Exeter) and J28, A373 (Cullompton Services)

The 32 year-old woman airlifted to Derriford hospital has sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her arm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 98 of 04/12/13.

The southbound carriageway has now reopened

There is very slow traffic northbound between J29, A30 (Exeter) and J28, A373 (Cullompton Services)

A police diversion is in operation on the  A30 eastbound toward Honiton and the A373 toward Cullompton.

There is also congestion to  around Exminster.

"Speaking to the Daily, Ian Creek, 33, marketing director for Rokk Media Ltd from Alphington said he has been at a standstill about half-a-mile from the Cullompton junction for around and hour and 20 minutes.

"I just hope everyone's alright,

"The northbound carriageway has been at a standstill the whole time and the southbound carriage was shut for around 20 minutes to allow the air ambulance to land.

"We saw it land about five to eight and then take off around 20 minutes later.

"Everyone's just sat in their cars with their engines off."

Motorists are advised to find an alternative route between Exeter and Cullompton for the time being.

The woman was driving a blue Renault Clio (registered to Essex) and has been taken to Derriford hospital.

The Renault and a white Mercedes Sprinter van (registered to Stockton-on-Tees) are both being recovered from the scene.

The northbound carriageway of the M5 remains closed this morning after a serious accident.

The southbound carriageway of the M5 near Cullompton was also closed for a short time to allow for the Devon Air Ambulance to land but has now reopened.

The collision involving a Renault Clio happened at around 6.30am this morning, Wednesday 4 December.

The car has overturned in the middle lane trapping a woman inside with potentially life changing injuries.

She was taken by air ambulance to Derriford hospital in Plymouth.

It is unclear at this stage whether any other vehicles have been involved.

Motorists are advised to find an alternative route from Exeter to Cullompton for the time being.
