Kay Transport, based in Cullompton, is to benefit from a new Digital Information Hub developed by Palletways Group, Europe’s largest dedicated network for the express delivery of palletised freight.

As one of 100 plus independent transport providers that make up the Palletways distribution network in the UK, Kay Transport will be able to take full advantage of a new digital system – an industry first -  to greatly enhance operational efficiencies and the customer experience  by optimising the use of live data.

The Digital Information Hub provides extensive operational and customer data in real time to improve processes, communication, traffic planning and vehicle utilisation. It covers everything from: live vehicle status information, which enables constant checks to be made on the location and delivery of all customer consignments allowing for proactive management of consignments at risk and customer pre advice if there are any delivery issues; to delivery profiling, visualised on a heat map to show where deliveries are currently been made and opportunities for customers to serve new markets nearby.

Kay Transport will also be able to benefit from a new mobile APP, which will enable access to the data when on the move and for Proof of Deliveries (PODs) to be generated electronically regardless of cellular coverage. The app will soon have new functions to allow label printing on the customer site with the aid of a mobile printer and also digital signature capture which will remove the need for the scanning of delivery notes within the depot, further streamlining the process.

Says Tim Prout, Principal at Kay Transport: “No other local transport company providing express delivery services for palletised freight can offer the business critical data to customers that we can via the Palletways Digital Information Hub.

“The new digital system will enable us the see the whole of our business in real time so we  know where every pallet is every minute of every day.

“The development forms part of our overriding commitment to provide significant added value to our logistics services via the Palletways distribution network and in doing so ensure  service excellence for our customers.

“The Digital Information Hub will help us make significant efficiency gains in our depot and on the road. Importantly, it will enable us to enhance the customer experience by: providing them with total visibility of their consignments throughout the supply chain; proactively managing any transport issues to ensure deliveries on time; reducing downtime on telephone calls; and opening up new business opportunities by highlighting potential new markets based on customers’ existing delivery profiles.”

All the independent transport providers in the Palletways network, including Kay Transport, share each other’s resources to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before.
