Promoting Devon's creative children

Launched in September, Young Creatives is an award scheme created by holidaycottages.co.uk in partnership with Devon Libraries. Aiming to promote creativity in children and young adults, the award scheme asks schools, parents and families to work together to encourage children to spend more time being creative and enjoying Devon, instead of playing video games or watching TV.

Two free, family, drop-in and draw events at Devon Guild this half-term. Enter a special creative space in the gallery where you can draw, design and make a Venetian-style Halloween mask and lace-based patterns for a collective wall decoration. Activities include pattern-making, papercutting, stencilling and projection-tracing, and are inspired by our current exhibition intoLACE as part of the Big Draw Campaign for Drawing 2013.

Fantastic Filmmaking Workshop (11 - 13 yrs)

A University of Exeter student has been shortlisted for the MTV Student of the Year award.

MA English Studies student Ashley Jenkin is hoping to take the title as the final stages of the online voting draws to a close on Sunday 9 June, when the announcement will be made.

Award-winning storyteller at Devon Guild this Easter

Storytelling is magic. Especially when it brings strange and wonderful objects to life. On 30 March you can hear talented performer Wilf Merttens tell tales about the unusual objects on show in the Devon Guild’s current exhibition,‘Transplantation’. Wilf, who ‘tells poems, brings legends, jumps about’ - has won awards for his vibrant performances (Storyteller of the Year 2009, Bristol Storytelling slam prize) which entertain young and old alike. Experimental Drawing at the Phoenix

Experiment with drawing and mark-making techniques using a variety of materials to unlock your creative potential. This fun and surprising workshop is suitable for all levels of ability and will also offer an insight into art history and contemporary art. Materials are provided.
