With more than half of Britons intending to make changes to their careers because of the coronavirus pandemic, a national social enterprise is calling on people across Exeter to consider ‘a rewarding career in fostering’.

AN AWARD scheme recognising the courage of children and young people diagnosed with cancer is being launched today in the South West.

Around 120 children are diagnosed with cancer in the South West every year. Nominations for the Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People Star Awards, in partnership with TK Maxx, are now open and families across the South West are being called on to nominate young cancer patients and survivors in the run up to Christmas.

Buddy dog for Exeter family ‘has opened up our world’

Sapphire the buddy dog – or wonder dog as her family calls her – came into the Ring family’s life in 2020, after the first lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Buddy dogs are provided by sight loss charity Guide Dogs for children with a visual impairment.

Double digit spending increase for vulnerable children and adults in Devon

Spending on services for vulnerable children and adults in Devon are set to rise by more than 10 per cent next year.

Devon County Council's target budget for 2022/23 was approved by the Cabinet today (Wednesday 8 December) but will not be finalised until February.

The target budget calls for an extra £18.2 million to be spent on adult care and health in the new financial year. That's an increase of 10.5 per cent.

There will be an increase of £11.6 million for children's services if the budget is ratified. That's a rise of 10.8 per cent.

Free school meals holiday vouchers doubled for Christmas

Families in Devon on low-incomes, whose children receive free school meals, will get extra support this Christmas to help them buy food during the holidays.

Over the past Devon County Council has provided supermarket vouchers worth £15 per child per week of the school holidays to families who qualify for free school meals, so their children don’t go hungry.

We’re doubling that for Christmas, with an extra one-off £30 supermarket voucher, so families will receive a £60 voucher per child for the two-weeks to help with the additional financial pressure the festive period...

Hobbycraft has launched a series of Paint Your Own Ceramic workshops for kids of all ages and painting abilities.

The workshop will be led by one of Hobbycraft’s in-store craft experts, with all money going to its charity partner, Together for Short Lives.
