Christmas is just around the corner and the Positive People team are getting festive by holding Christmas crafting workshops across Devon. The Positive People project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund and aims to help people get socially and digitally connected.

There are many myths surrounding hospices, one of the biggest misconceptions is that if you get admitted to one, it’s because you are about to die. That’s certainly the impression Bronia Rosier and her family had when she was referred to local charity, Hospiscare.

Staff and volunteers from the British Heart Foundation were joined by some special helpers from St Michael’s Church of England Primary Academy and law firm Michelmores to decorate one of the 35 Christmas trees donated to charities for the Charity Christmas Tree Festival in Roman Walk, Exeter. Christmas is a time of year when we all get involved with certain traditions. Hanging the mistletoe, brussels sprouts, mince pies, Christmas trees, office parties, so the list goes on…. And it’s no different for retired police officer Barry Frost, 59, from Exeter. However one of Barry’s festive traditions is a tad more unusual than most.

Rainbow Living’s Treasurer Ruth Airdrie has attended Buckingham Palace for her MBE investiture ceremony.

Ruth was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours list, in recognition of the voluntary work she has undertaken for Rainbow Living over the last 11 years.

Charity breakfast morning raises £2,000 for Children's Hospice SW

RGB Building Supplies raised £2,150 for Children’s Hospice South West during its charity breakfast morning on Friday 3rd November.

The event saw visitors to RGB’s Exeter branch make a donation in return for a bacon roll with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the charity.

Paul West, Branch Manager at RGB Exeter, commented: “Our charity events are always extremely well supported, so a big thank you to all our customers who supported the fundraising breakfast morning and helped us raise such a fantastic amount of money.”

Former students and employees of St Loye’s College shared memories at an exhibition of photos and artefacts at Devon Heritage Centre in Exeter.

St Loye’s College was founded as a charity by Dame Georgiana Buller who wanted people with disabilities to have the opportunity to work and fulfil their potential.

Brave Exeter Lecturer cuts hair off for children’s charity

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School, who is due to undergo chemotherapy, has cut off her long hair in aid of a children’s cancer charity close to her heart.

Dr Rachel Palfrey, 46, from Plymouth, has donated 30cms of her hair to the Little Princess Trust – a charity which provides real-hair wigs for children who have lost their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy and other illnesses.

Dr Palfrey was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October of this year, and will be starting chemotherapy within the next few weeks.

Crediton Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival

Sunday 10th December is your last chance in 2017 to see the Crediton Parish Church decorated with over 70 trees by locals groups and businesses.

Following Communion at 9.30am, the Festival opens at 11am, and the Cafe in the adjacent Boniface Centre at 2pm for food and drinks.

Apart from the wonderful trees, there will be guided tours of the Governors Room and Bell Tower.

The Cafe and Festival close at 5pm, after which the Crediton Parish Church Choir will entertain you with a Concert at 6pm.

The second day of the Christmas Tree Festival open from 11am to 6pm. This year there are more than 70 trees decorated by local charities, clubs, associations and groups. The Cafe will be open from 10am to 4pm for drinks and food. Admission is FREE, there is disabled access and free parking. The No5 Stagecoach bus stop stops outside the church nd the railway station is a pleasant 15 minute walk.
