Stagecoach donates £10,000 to Haiyan appeal

The Stagecoach transport group has donated £10,000 to help relief efforts in the Philippines.

The transport group has made the donation to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Stagecoach has also agreed to match up to £40,000 of funding raised by its employees.

The group employs 35,000 bus and rail employees in both the UK and North America.

School Children in Exeter have been helping to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

At schools in the city children dressed up in spotty clothing to match this year's theme.

The money they raised has gone to Exeter and Localities Grief Support for Children, Young People and Their Families and Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA)

An Exeter businessman who has developed a system which can deploy tens of thousands of personal emergency First Aid pods by parachute to victims of natural disasters like those being experienced in the Philippines, has spoken of his frustration that no major charity or organisation has adopted the idea.

NHS Trust destroy home of nature to gain planning permission in Exminster

This morning the RSPB sent a formal letter of complaint to the bosses Devon NHS concerning the willful destruction of land near Exminster.

Hillcrest is home to a population of Cirl Buntings, a bird so nationally important and rare to find. A Paignton Zoo gorilla has joined the Royal Navy on a voyage to the Antarctic.

The adventurous ape, named PEG – Polar Explorer Gorilla - has sailed on board HMS Protector, the Royal Navy’s ice patrol ship. And fittingly, this plastic Paignton Zoo gorilla will be painted with an image of a Living Coasts' macaroni penguin, alongside a number of other penguin species.

Christmas joy for poverty-stricken youngsters

Global workplace provider Regus in Exeter is supporting a Christmas campaign which sends present-filled shoeboxes to needy children in developing and war torn countries.

The Regus centre is a local drop off point until the 18th November for the 2013 “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox appeal.

Run in conjunction with the Samaritan’s Purse charity, the appeal involves filling shoeboxes with toys and gifts to send to children overseas in refugee camps, orphanages, homeless shelters and impoverished neighbourhoods.
