Oxjam music festival takes over Exeter to raise funds for Oxfam

Over £2,750 was raised for Oxfam last weekend, when 60 artists and bands played live across Exeter for The Exeter Daily-sponsored music festival, Oxjam Exeter Takeover.

Exeter was just one of up to 60 towns and cities across the UK that took part in the festival, all on the same weekend.

Events began at midday on Saturday and included acts performing in Princesshay, the Guildhall Shopping Centre and Exeter Phoenix.

Charity says thank you to Exeter’s fund-raising coffee shop

A woman from Woodbury near Exeter who lost her husband to a brain tumour one year ago has visited local coffee shop Coffee#1 in Princesshay Shopping Centre, Exeter, to say a big thank you to staff who are currently helping raise funds for Hammer Out, the South West’s only brain tumour charity, through the sale of charity gingerbread men.

Babbacombe Model Village is hosting a popularity contest – for small gorillas.

It’s all part of Paignton Zoo’s Great Gorillas Project. More than 20 gorilla models designed and created by schools from across the region will gather at the Model Village over half term.

Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite. The winning school will receive free visits to both Paignton Zoo and Babbacombe Model Village. Children will be allowed to vote for their own gorilla.

Staff from Marks & Spencer in Exeter gave Hospiscare patients an important gift recently after choosing the charity as its Store Charity of the Year.

15 hand-held, battery operated fans were delivered to patients at the Exeter hospice, to not only help them keep cool, but also to help with symptom control.

Hospiscare Ward Manager Petra Osborne said: “The fans are particularly helpful for patients who suffer from breathlessness, panic or anxiety as they can be used in conjunction with strategies taught to patients to control their symptoms.”
