Devon artists receive warm hospitality in Italy

AventHolidays, founded by Woodbury-based Jeremy Jackson, launched the first of their Italian painting breaks in the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage City of Ferrara, Italy. Exeter artist Rebecca de Mendonca, tutored the pastel painting course to a seven-strong group, which included BBC Radio Devon presenter Judi Spiers and Exeter PR consultant Glen King.

Guests enjoyed wine and canapés at a special event held in their honour hosted by Brother and Sister Marco and Melia in the private courtyard of their home.

Enter Royal Mail’s Christmas stamp design competition

Yes, we know it's way too early to start thinking about Christmas, but how fabulous would it be to see your child or pupil's design on one of the Royal Mail's Christmas stamps?

Royal Mail is running an amazing national art competition for primary school pupils to design stamps for Christmas 2013.

Two lucky winners will see their designs on one of the 1st or one of the 2nd Class Christmas stamps from this year’s range.

Only twice before has Royal Mail run a competition like this – in 1966 and 1981 – so this is the first opportunity for more than 30 years for school...

An evocative exhibition of Devon landscapes showing throughout July and August features the work of two photographers, Natalie Christie and Martin Sharpe.

Christie captures landscape through artistic eyes and the selection of her works large and small is stunning, including summer grasses against a stormy sky and crashing waves.

Sharpe’s work is abstract with an emphasis on line, shape, pattern and beautiful spectrums of colour. All of the works are available for sale and can be ordered in different sizes.

Dartmoor Art at RAMM

Find out about some of the animals that live on Dartmoor. Get creative, paint or make your own view of the moor – it could be a bird’s eye view or perhaps that of a mouse.

Call in when you like and stay as long as you like. All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults can watch/supervise for free. Some activities are messy so do wear clothes that can get dirty. If an activity is busy there may be a short wait.

A £2.50 entry fee is required. Held in RAMM Meeting Room A.

Summer craft exhibition: Make a Mark

The Guild’s annual summer exhibition by its Membership features handling pieces, samples, sketches and background material alongside finished craft work. Firefighter’s art exhibition

A firefighter who was one of the first on the scene of a major fire in Crediton has created an exhibition charting the history of the buildings involved.

The fire in Buller Square on 2 February 2012 severely damaged five historic thatched cottages and adjoining properties were also damaged by the fire. Ten fire crews were fighting the fire at its height and firefighters were at the scene for three days.

The Exeter Arts Hub's latest exhibition previewed on Monday evening. A crowd of about 30 [by the time I left] were entertained at the St Thomas venue by a variety of works in a range of media. From being greeted outside the door by Simon Nelder's huge metal dragon to his own delicate musing on a dead bird in porcelain upstairs, curator Adam Graddon ensured there was something for art lovers of all stripes.
