Fresh Art Show at Exeter's new space for creativity
The Exeter Arts Hub's latest exhibition previewed on Monday evening. A crowd of about 30 [by the time I left] were entertained at the St Thomas venue by a variety of works in a range of media. From being greeted outside the door by Simon Nelder's huge metal dragon to his own delicate musing on a dead bird in porcelain upstairs, curator Adam Graddon ensured there was something for art lovers of all stripes.
The exhibition has been billed as showcasing hidden talent, but this has more than a whiff of modesty! Anyone attending Exeter Open Studios or even the RAMM last year will be familiar with the work of Naomi Hart, and Adam's own work has also been showcased at various local venues, including the Northcott Theatre. There is also work on show by local artists and makers: Hazell Ryan, Carol Morris, and with fresh psychedelia from her Exeter College show, Sissy Lange.
The show started with the usual feverous buzz we expect with such a generous spread of finger food and flowing wine and will hopefully reach a more refined plateau by the time the Lord Mayor visits at 11am on Tuesday, coinciding with a poetry reading by war artist Suzanne Steele.
The Arts Hub, at 25 Manor Road, is rapidly becoming an exciting venture for people looking to use studio facilities or exhibit their work, with each exhibition bringing a fresh mix of creative minds and hands to the table.
The previews are always great networking events too, with plenty of peer-reviewing and exchanges of business cards. Adam will be available to show people around from now until the 27th, when there is a closing party [6pm-9pm].
Judging by the red dots appearing next to the work there might not be much left to buy, but hopefully this won't deter art lovers and scenesters alike from going along and getting stuck in.
