Newtown Art Cafe

Newtown Community Association is gearing up for an Art Café, which will take place this Sunday, 9 June at the main hut in Belmont Park from 2pm-4pm. As well as a painting activity with Exeter Scrapstore, there will be live music mostly from young string players 'The J Strings' – which is the St James School string group – Exeter Young Strings, and also a young string band will be doing a few tunes.

After that, there will be an open session for anyone to play a few tunes.

Mick Abbott is a full time artist, dividing his time between Cambridge, Brittany and New York. He was an art teacher at Comberton Village College, Cambridge for 22 years and loved it. The latest creation in Paignton Zoo’s Great Gorilla Project is a real team effort.

Artist Penny Robson, a tutor for South Devon College’s Adult & Community Learning Department, invited her students to help her paint a life-size gorilla.

“There’s a list of about thirty people who want to help, but I can only have two or three at a time!” The model gorilla, called Flagged, is decorated with the flags of all the nations that are home to wild gorillas.

The annual Foundation Degree Summer Show is open to the public, and provides an opportunity for prospective applicants to see the high standard of work produced. In partnership with Plymouth University, students can top up their Foundation Degree to a full BA with an optional third year in Plymouth.

Ten out of Ten – exhibition of Craft Festival winners at Devon Guild

This new exhibition will feature mixed craft work by ten makers who have won awards at the Contemporary Craft Festival, which celebrates its 10th birthday in Bovey Tracey this year.
