Late-night opening for Hospiscare's city centre shops

Late-night opening begins tonight for Hospiscare's two city centre shops in the run-up to Christmas. The stores, in Fore Street and Sidwell Street, will stay open until 8pm on Thursday nights and both will also be opening on Sundays. Fore Street, where there is a very popular vintage section in the basement, will open from 10am until 4pm and Sidwell Street, which is opposite John Lewis, from 10:30am until 4:30pm.

Event Exeter part of biggest BBC Children in Need night ever

Hundreds of staff, students and local people joined the BBC in the Forum at the University on Friday 16 November for the annual Children in Need broadcast.

Hosted by BBC presenters David Fitzgerald and Victoria Graham, the festivities started at 1.30pm. The event, which was managed by the Event Exeter team in collaboration with University colleagues, featured live broadcasts by the BBC Spotlight team as well as linking to the national TV network programme throughout the evening.

Exeter City are delighted to welcome the crew of HMS Defender to the fixture against Rotherham at St James’ Park this weekend. In attendance will be members of 190-strong Ship’s Company, including their football team, and they will be led by their Commanding Officer, Commander Philip Nash RN and presented to the crowd at half-time.

80-metre Bypass tunnel arrives for Clyst Honiton

Large concrete sections have now started arriving on site at the Clyst Honiton Bypass to create a tunnel. The tunnel which is a safety measure at the foot of Exeter Airport’s runway, will comprise of 44 sections or arches which will create an 80 metre long tunnel. Once complete the bypass will take traffic away from the local roads of Clyst Honiton and provide access to key employment sites.

Fire-struck charity moves home – with help from a friend!

Local removals company Van Man Exeter has helped charity Surf Life Saving GB move into new offices for free, after a fire at its Exeter headquarters on 2nd November.

The charity has moved next door from its previous office on Southernhay, after being told the whole building will be out of action until at least March 2013.

Flood risk in Halberton near Tiverton

Residents in Halberton are being asked to be aware of the potential risk of flooding this afternoon and tomorrow.

The Grand Western Canal has breached some parts of its banks and is discharging water to the north side of the canal.

Whilst this does not pose an immediate threat, further rainfall tomorrow might make the situation worse.

Highways teams are doing their best to seal the areas where water is leaking and are keeping the situation under review

Newtown road improvements aimed at improving safety

Proposals to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the Newtown area of Exeter are being announced by Devon County Council.

Local residents are invited to comment on the draft plans at a consultation event on Thursday 29th November, at the Pyramids Leisure Centre on Heavitree Road.

Improvements include new traffic signals at the Pyramids junction on Heavitree Road and relocating the existing pedestrian crossing to make it safer to cross.
